Peterson wasn't supposed to be an ace. He was a back-ender who overachieved for a while. I wish him well. Some team should be willing to take a gander at Senga. He's not expensive, and he might have something left with a fresh new start. Bad vibes keeping him much longer.
My fantasy is getting rid of David Stearns. Can be, as Gary Cohen referenced in an aside yesterday, for unknown compensation.
Another infielder. This one seems about two years away from being a serious contender for a MLB roster spot. Get the timing logic. Cubs might be in “rent-a-body” mode for a WC run, and with Petersen accustomed to having an Opener the past month or so, he could slot nicely as a middle reliever/spot starter.
Mets really don’t need that kind of arm where they are right now. Get the logic on both sides of the deal. Tenure? Yeah right. Worth about as much as a bucket of nothing. Respectfully, anybody still thinking otherwise may benefit from revisiting the reality of the modern game.
Still say Sterns absolutely, completely, and totally own this. Listening to Mendy after last night’s defensive fiasco led me to think he was the right guy at the wrong time. Stearns could not “manage” Buck, so he brought in a (high potential) Bench Coach to manage. He got what he wanted. Now? He has a young deer hypnotized by the light and slammed by oncoming headlights. Ironic he had the guy who made sense of his “assemble the Legos” roster strategy in the opposing dugout pounding the hell out of his “shore up the defense’ preseason objective.
Do hope Mr. Cohen was watching. Time to put being a fan aside and show his hedge fund chops. In his other world, he has fired better talent for better - but below his expectations - results.

Peterson should do better with the Cubs' outstanding defense behind him. Mets' infield has been Swiss cheese all season. So much for "run prevention."
At the same time, the move allows the club to see what they have in one of the young AAA pitchers, be it Tong, Wenninger or Thornton. Why not bring one or two of them up for an extended run, especially since Senga has pitched his way out of the starting rotation as well.

If, as the article suggests may happen, all of Peralta, Holmes, Minter, and Raley are shown the door, who is going to pitch for this team?
Various minor league replacements, including people like Tong, to start. They are also likely to pick up some cast-offs to fill some innings.
But Tong has flopped this year.
He’s a work in progress. If the team is not going anywhere, bring him up to work things out. Or try another rookie in the minors.
Peterson always pitched well against Philly. Wish him well in Chicago.
