Off topic, somewhat. Thanks for this (and in Abstentia today, Mr. Buzzkirk). Just my opinion, but your collaborative work is exceptional. Still feeling my way around Substack (though I mouth off here occasionally). Your work brings the potential for the platform (and its economic model) together is ways I hope others emulate.

The fan in me doesn’t like hearing quantity - would prefer to hear quality. I realize the limited value a pitcher who has lost mph off of his pitches and was injured has a couple of months before he becomes a free agent.
But as much of a disappointment this season has provided we need to see some quality come back before the trade deadline. And I’m good with an A ball player who projects well. Certainly not without risk, and will take time to develop. But something to be optimistic about. As the 2023 trades proved - not even top rated prospects always pan out . But at least there is a chance
Good toe in the water. Don't expect much for a rental. Son of an old friend is a nice touch.
I don't want them to trade Weaver. But if they trade one of the relievers who aren't just rentals, they should get more in return. Holmes or Weaver should get something particularly nice.
I wonder if there will be any trades or non-trades that are somewhat surprising. We know basically who is likely to go. A few moves could be a bit more surprising.
The team has been playing well off the break. They are playing good teams.
A split with a game given away because of an error would have been acceptable even if they were in the race. Trades will hurt them, but key pieces will remain.
So they should continue to play respectable ball. Might have a losing streak, but it shouldn't be April the rest of the way or something.
I have no faith in David Sterns to make good decisions in the next few days or the next few years. His track record with the Mets is TERRIBLE. He could have signed much better options at 2nd base and at 1st base last off season. He had blinders on just trying to get rid of Nimmo and letting Alonso go with no plan to fill the holes with solid ball players who post. I can only hope he proves me wrong. Cohen...DO SOMETHING TO GET OUR TEAM BACK TO RESPECTABILITY AND THEN TO WINNING BASEBALL!
