A partir del puesto 4 o 5, el turno de bateo es un desierto, eliminaciones automáticas. Con la mitad de la alineación aportando es complicado ganar partidos.
I loath Atlanta with the fire of a thousand suns but I must admire how they get young talent wherever it comes from....athletic kids like Acuna, Albies, Harris, Schwellenbach....the kid at shortstop. The Met lineup is obviously top heavy.. I'll just be happy to get them into playoffs.
Love the metaphor. Also, they have a knack for signing good players to reasonable long term contracts. I notice Alonso since June 10 has a total of 3 rbis. A major factor in their collapse, imo.
This offense is maddening and the young guys are definitely a big part of that. You have to win when Blackburn “only” gives up 3 runs. Baty & Maurico will be sent down soon. Vientos has no options so he needs to start looking like the guy from last season.
I didn't know Vientos was out of options. I think they plug him in at DH and hope for the best. Maurico can play 2,ss and 3 so I don't think they send him down unless they come up with another backup, Baty goes down (he still has options?)
Ome thing I notice about Baty and many of the Mets in general, they consistently take the first pitch. Before you know it they're down two strikes and basically dead ducks. Can I add Taylor and Nimmo to the list? Probably they're trying to extend the opposing pitcher's pitch count but by doing so they're forced to swing at pitches just to protect the plate and end up swinging at balls out of the strike zone. I think Mendoza needs for them to be more aggressive on the first pitch. And how about practicing some bunting? They will never get anywhere if they allow themselves to constantly get into a two strike hole.
Right, it's often the best pitch to hit that you'll see. Bunting? A lost art, unless you're Tampa Bay playing the Mets. Digress: if runs allowed on wild pitches/passed balls is tallied, I'd hazard a guess that our Mets are among the leaders.
Thanks Joel—totally agree, especially on that “lost art” part. It’s mind-boggling how deep infielders play on the Mets and we still don’t exploit it. A simple drag bunt from a lefty like Nimmo could practically be a double the way they’re shifted. And yeah, the passed balls/wild pitches stat? Feels like we lead the league in that circus act too.
Mendoza needs to shake things up. Waiting for a walk isn’t a strategy when you’re down 0-2 every at-bat. Mix in some bunting, keep the defense honest, and maybe—just maybe—we stop making every mediocre pitcher look like prime Maddux.
I'm glad you don't run the team because I'm still a Baty-believer. Interesting that they chose to send Acuna down and keep Mauricio...not sure what their reasoning is.
Something I noticed during Baty's hot streak: he wasn't standing in the box like a statue. He was waggling the bat, twitching his right foot — he looked like he was out to do some damage.
Now he's back to standing almost perfectly still. And he's late on everything again.
I'm really not sure what kind of advice he's getting from Chavez and Barnes, but looking at it from the outside, I was ready to break Baty's swing down entirely in the early season and open him up and pull his hands back, just to get him moving around in there. He needed a trigger.
He seemed to find one and he started to mash. Now, we're back to square one again. No movement. No trigger.
If I were him, I'd ignore everyone and just go out there feeling jazzy and let it all hang out.
When was the last time the Mets had a successful player come up through the ranks? One that actually met the hype? Baty, Alvarez, Vientos, Mauricio, Acuna...have their moments, but nothing sustainable. Is the problem with the farm system?
So many things that you point out every day . All the good will the Mets established for a very successful season, seem to be slip sliding away!

We'll be checking the Wild Card standings before too long

It seems, at this point, that the prospects were greatly overrated by the fans and possibly by the team

" -New York Mets transferred LF Jesse Winker from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list" - I thought he was close to coming back
I'm glad you don't run the team because I'm still a Baty-believer. Interesting that they chose to send Acuna down and keep Mauricio...not sure what their reasoning is.
I think it's because Mauricio has experience at 3b as well as ss and 2b while Acuna lacks 3b experience.

McNeil, Peterson, Butto, Nimmo, and a guy named Alonso. So don't go firing your scouting staff just yet.
McNeil (33), Peterson (29 about to hit 30), Butto (27), Nimmo (32), Alonso (30). So, yeah, it's been a minute.
