Thanks for the RISP stats. Painful, again. Throws to the plate seem to be a particular problem. Silver lining may be Marte's resurgence. A lot of people, including me, thought he was done. Phils have lost 6 of 7, which I didn't think was possible...Luzardo got lit up again. Braves lost spectacularly. You couldn't make this up department: Braves have one relief pitcher named Blewett and another named Bummer!

That was a rough one that we should have won easily. I knew when we kept leaving runners on base it wouldn’t end well. Imagine if we didn’t resign Pete! He has 20% of our RBI - I actually thought it was more than that.

Really weak on defensive side of the team. Bath’s throw seemed like a panic. Championship teams play good all around baseball Mets need to tighten this aspect out.

Yes Jose....true championship teams DO NOT make stupid plays.

The Mets are weak in fundamentals....the ability to execute the right play flawlessly when needed. Why did Baty throw the ball in the ground??? And I'm not impressed with the 3rd base coach....did he fall asleep during a pickoff play at 3rd base???? And his runners are caught doing stupid stuff on the base paths....like not knowing if an outfielder has caught a fly ball. Doesn't he COMMUNICATE with runners?? Guiding them....or are they on their own. What happened to Cora? I liked him....he was on top of everything.

The fact that the Mets are in first is indeed miraculous—because this team is allergic to clutch hitting. Vientos was a black hole before the injury, Baty goes cold for weeks, Mauricio looks overmatched by major league pitching, and Acuña seems locked into that classic “one-for-four” rhythm. Even Soto—who's supposed to be an MVP-type bat—often kills rallies when it counts most. Taylor chips in the occasional double, but you can’t count on him either. Outside of Alonso, the whole lineup tenses up with RISP like they’re being audited. Until they solve that, every game is a high-wire act.

Audited!! Truly a foul circumstance! 😅

Haha exactly! And honestly, it was a miracle they pulled it off tonight against the Rockies. Until Alonso—and later Lindor—finally came through, they stranded runners all over the place. It’s been the same pattern all season. So far, the pitching’s been their saving grace. But man, they love dancing on the edge.

Tough day yesterday. Relief pitchers are out there so much, they're bound to have some outings when it all goes sideways. So, no shame on Reed (and he'll be fine). The issues are definitely RISP and defensive brain freezes.

The good news is, both of those things can be fixed. We have the talent. If we clean it all up and keep pitching like this, we're going to be scary indeed.

Could of, should of, and would of, but end in a split decision. I'd like to see the Mets begin to look at Peterson as a long term member of the rotation. As you conclusively point out, they sure leave a lot of ducks on the pond. On to the Rocky Mountains!

Btw, glad the Mets didn't sign Conforto over the winter. It always seemed he had huge potential but never could fulfill it. Gorgeous swing. Remember his 2 hrs in World Series game as a rookie? Seemed like every spring some pundit would write a piece titled, "Is this the year Michael Conforto wins the MVP?"

he was never on their radar. Wasn't ever in play.

The Mets won 4 games in LA ... they beat the Dodgers in 2 and beat themselves in the other 2. I, and probably you, have seen the Nimmo and Baty plays before because we've spent some time at Little League games.

Depressing ... but as previously written on these pages, they needed a split to get the tie breaker and mission accomplished on that score.

"The fact that the Mets are in first place is nothing short of miraculous considering their struggles with RISP this season." I've never heard anyone focus on it specifically.

I found this:

https://www.statmuse.com/mlb/ask/team-average-with-runners-in-scoring-position

...which has Mets at .244, which ranks 13 of 30, if I'm understanding it correctly. It also lists Giants and Guardians as having 5th and 6th lowest BA w RISP, pretty good teams.
