Mets owner Steve Cohen took to Twitter to air his frustrations over the club’s negotiations with Steven Matz’s agent, Rob Martin. Cohen insists the club was led to believe they would be able to bring Matz back and were willing to at least match the four-year, $44 million deal he received from the Cardinals, but were never given the opportunity to do so (New York Post)

The Mets signed OF Nick Plummer to a one-year, major league contract. Plummer, 25, hit .280/.415/.479 with 20 doubles, six triples, 15 homers, 54 RBI, 71 runs scored, 73 walks and 13 stolen bases in 117 combined games last season in the Cardinals organization with Springfield (AA) and Memphis (AAA)
Robinson Canó was removed from the Estrellas Orientales roster with lower back discomfort. He has been prescribed physical therapy and is considered week-to-week. Canó missed the entire 2021 season while serving a 162-game suspension for PED usage
