Other than that crazy 9 RBI game Nimmo has been horrible. It’s surprising to me that Vientos K rate is down this year. I feel like he’s striking out a lot. I’m still confident he can turn it around. He might miss JD. I feel like he really helped some of the hitters last year.

Like you, I'm not especially worried about Vientos. You might be right, however, that he misses JD!

Until you mentioned it, I entirely forgot about JD's significant daily influence on Vientos. If JD's absence is affecting Vientos, I hope Carlos Beltran (another major influence) pays Vientos at least a few visits sooner rather than later - assuming it's ok with Hefner & the rest of the pitching staff, that is. (Beltran still works in the Mets front office, right?)

A few visits from Beltran wouldn't/couldn't replace JD's daily presence, of course. But perhaps Beltran's unique, direct encouragement could help Swaggy V regain some of his swagger.

As for Nimmo ... I'm less certain. Part of me strongly believes he'll snap out of his funk very shortly.. Another part of me worries he won't. (What can I say? I'm a long-time Mets fan.)

Looks like Nimmo has reverted to his ghost again. Btw, what happened with Dedniel Nunez? He was great last year before he got injured.

I've often wondered if it might not be a bad idea to bring J.D. back as a coach. I'm not sure what Barnes and Chavez are doing with some of these guys. It seems like most of their adjustments are happening when they work with someone else, as in Alvy's case.

That's just speculation, though. I have no idea what's really happening behind the scenes.

The Mets have had their fair share of special moments this year, and every situation will not result in the desired outcome. The first 20% of the season is done, now time to attack the next segment. Starting pitchers need to gut out a few more outs per game, not overusing the pen daily, and the offense will be fine. Let's go Mets!!!

Agreed and as noted a lot of his at bats are "not competitive", i.e., he looks out of his league. I'd disagree that if he continues to struggle the Mets should turn to someone besides Baty. He had started to turn things around when the numbers game got him. And he fields 3b well.
