IF….IF the Mets sign Tucker I think the pitching staff gets handled next. You gotta believe Stearns is wary of losing draft picks and international pool money. I think Peralta is the pivot here. Gore I hear the Nats want a kings ransom and I feel Stearns wants to keep Tong if at all possible and is shopping Sproat and Scott plus lower rated arms that have serious upside but maybe are a year or two away. If this pitching lab is now able to churn these pitchers out he has to start dealing as we all know they all can’t play at once and through history prospects get dealt. When the ink is dry I’ll celebrate but you said it. More still needs to be done and mebbe this is the deal that breaks the dam.

The Athletic:

If the Mets don’t land Tucker, they’re much more likely to explore the trade market for outfield help.

And when you take a step back and look at the free-agency landscape over the next few seasons, nobody in line to hit the open market carries close to the same offensive pedigree as Tucker.

Indeed. Few weeks ago I looked up FA market for '27. Apart from skubal and peralta, it's very thin.

I think Tucker signs with Toronto. Here is why:

1). Longer contract provides stability and more money in total even if less per year. Having suffered through injuries the past couple seasons that might be appealing to him.

2). Tucker and his wife are both from Tampa and best I could find live there in the off-season. They are about to have their first child. The Jays train im Dunedin which would essentially give him two more months a year at home. His wife is pregnant with their first child which could make this more important.

The longer term contract also allows family stability versus potentially having to move again witb a toddler and maybe a second child too.

3). He has friends from Houston who play on the Jays including Myles Straw who jokingly offered to babysit if he signed with Toronto. Not sure how friendly he is with Springer but Vladdy also reacted to his Instagram post.

4). Jays would seem to be in a better position to win over next several years.

5). Jays by all accounts have a close-knit team and the Mets maybe not so much.

6). Tucker and his wife have a foundation that helps support hospice caregivers. She as his girlfriend was close with other Astro wives. I have zero knowledge in this regard but they don’t sound like New Yorkers.

Hark! The day has come when I read a baseball blog and a poster earnestly makes a point about a ballplayer's wife being pregnant. Truly a milestone.

Yeah, buying a championship is great, but there’s no guarantees. And, at the end of the day, we are now rooting for a bunch of unloveable players that have no affinity to the team. Sterns approach is hollow and the game seems to get further and further away from what was great about it. Let’s see how it feels to win with a bunch of number-crunched, greedy people. Probably will fit neatly into the world we live in. Youth baseball is more exciting than this pile of rotten garbage.

Balderdash. In the good old days that you yearn for, players stayed with teams forever because they had no choice. I'm tempted to suggest you should go elsewhere and leave the rotten garbage for those of us--vermin?--who enjoy it.

Feel free to skip past any comment I might leave that you disagree with. And I’m tempted to suggest: isn’t their enough attempts of others to silence those they disagree with in the world today without you suggesting it here?

Sir, it's simple. This is a site where people who enjoy baseball fandom do their thing. If you think it's "rotten garbage" it makes sense for you to do something you enjoy and leave us to enjoy our pastime.

Doesn’t really make much sense, lindor and Soto both committed to spending 10+ years of their HOF careers here, players become Mets in other ways rather than just graduating our farm system
