Overall thus far Blackburn doesn't look like he adds anything to the pitching staff. Would be nice to add a dependable solid starter. In a baseball season there are usually winning and losing streaks, but the last 5 games have exposed diffincincies that they have covered up nicely all season., most noticeable to me the lack of productive hitting witmen on base. The Mets have won nothing yet, and don't bury the Braves yet.
I fear the Braves; it's part of my DNA. A Mets win today means the Braves only picked up a game. I don't count the Phillies out, but IMO the Braves are the team to beat, and the Mets better not get swept.
Blackburn makes me pine for Megill. Could Tidwell be worse? At least he strikes guys out. Montas is looking like a waste of Cohen’s money. The offense isn’t good enough to win with sub-par pitching. We need help.
There's no shame in getting shut out by Sale. He's on his way to Cooperstown.
But the other four losses in the streak were tough. We're playing our worst baseball of the year right now.
Which is going to happen to every team at some point, of course. Just sucks when you're going through it. I was laughing last night off and cracking a lot of jokes on Amazing Avenue, but the other games physically hurt. 😆
The biggest problem other than rotation health — Senga, Megill and Manaea are either hurt or coming back from injury, and who knows what's going on with Montas — is RISP, and everyone knows it. There isn't a solution other than guys starting to hit, either. As Andrew says, guys have to start playing up to the back of their baseball cards.
This is the first big character test of the season. Let's get it ON.
The only hope now is that the Mets get a breather against some of the weaker teams—assuming we can still recognize who those are. I mean, wasn’t Atlanta supposed to be one of them? If the Braves are what “struggling” looks like, then the Mets might be in for a long rest of June and July. The stars need to snap out of it fast, or we’ll be clinging to that one game lead like it’s the last out in the ninth.

Good piece. Can we re-sign Wheeler or is it too late? Just kidding...

Team meeting moment?
