The Mets magical ride in 2024 will continue to Southern California this weekend.
Thanks to another huge home run from Francisco Lindor, the Mets defeated the Phillies 4-1 in Game 4 of the National League Division Series to eliminate the Phillies and clinch their best of five against their longtime rival 3-1.
Once again, the Mets came up with a magical moment. After struggling badly with runners in scoring position against Phillies starter Ranger Suárez over the first five innings, the Mets loaded the bases with nobody out in the sixth. After Francisco Álvarez struck out, the Mets turned the lineup over for their MVP, and their MVP delivered a grand slam over the right center field wall to put the Mets in the lead, sealing the deal in the series and sending the Phillies home for the winter.
Jose Quintana started for the Mets and pitched into the sixth inning, allowing only an unearned run in his latest stellar outing. Reed Garrett and David Peterson shut the door on Philadelphia, allowing for Lindor to seize the opportunity and deliver the latest great moment in this 2024 season for the Mets.
Peterson went on to pitch through the eighth inning, and he was brilliant in relief. He didn’t allow a run over 2.1 IP, giving way to Edwin Díaz in the ninth who closed out the series for New York, despite a small adventure at the end.
Now, the Mets will wait for either the Padres or the Dodgers, and will open the National League Championship Series at either Petco Park or Dodger Stadium on Sunday.
Let LA /SD go 5 grewling games and beat the crap out of each other, depleting the pitching staffs. Makes no difference where we go to start the series. This has been an AMAZING season to be a Mets fan.
Hope the LA-SD goes to 27 innings in a game 5!
