Asking for a friend ... on what date will a Met fan be allowed to voice her/his disappointment in Juan Soto's performance? She/he doesn't want to be over-critical, but at what point does it become a problem she/he is allowed to address publicly without being labeled with various terms describing mental illness? OK, she/he, I did it?
You can express it all you want. If it's criticized as being wrong, be not surprised. If every Mets player had a OBP even close to .384, I'd be thrilled. Save your disappointment for McNeil and Marte, guys I root for but who aren't getting it done. Both starting pitching and bullpen have unfortunately "come down to Earth". Hope Baty and Acuna get into today's game. One quibble with Mr. Steele: I don't think dealing with Winker's absence is a problem since he wasn't contributing much. Whoever they use at his DH slot won't be worse.
I’m pretty straight forward: you stink until you don’t, you’re great until you’re not and what applies here: Mets are mediocre until they’re not. The Phillies have made up ground quickly and the Braves are coming. Early warning: a wild card would be huge disappointment
Yeah, it’s early, but every game counts the same as another unless a playoff position clinched. The pitching is faltering (expected) and a season long problem with RISP continues. Red flags for sure
We're scuffling a bit, but that's going to happen at various times in the season, especially on the road. The defensive miscues are a little concerning. We need to play better ball.
I think we need to be clear on Acuna as well: he needs to start at second every game where he's healthy, no matter who is on the mound. He brings a dimension no one else can bring. It's a waste to leave him on the bench unless it's a scheduled rest day.
And I'd seriously be considering batting him second now and bumping Soto and Alonso down a spot.
McNeil can DH against righties or spell Soto or Taylor in the outfield, depending on the pitcher and who needs a rest.
A great part of baseball is that you get a chance to flush these bounce games 24 hours later (or less). Early big game today. Need a series win to get right before the Cubs come in.
