Playoff Race 🏁
The Padres and Diamondbacks both won on Sunday, but thanks to a seven run explosion by the Dodgers in the 9th inning, Atlanta lost.
That means the Mets will enter play tonight still deadlocked with Atlanta for the final Wild Card spot in the National League, two games behind Arizona for the 2nd one.
There are 13 games remaining.
Per FanGraphs, the Mets have a 44.1% chance of making the postseason.
New York has the second hardest schedule in MLB the rest of the way.
Tiebreakers:
vs. ATL: 5-5
vs. ARI: 4-3 (finished)
vs. SD: 5-2 (finished)

Do the Mets have one more run in them? ✍️
Well, it all comes down to this.
Its a best of 13.
As the Mets come home to begin the penultimate week of the 2024 season, they’re doing so on the heels of a disappointing weekend in Philadelphia. New York let a four run lead get away on Saturday, and frustratingly lost a 2-1 nail biter yesterday afternoon. Even more importantly, their best player, shortstop Francisco Lindor, is dealing with a back issue that will require an MRI.
But this isn’t the first time the Amazins’ have dealt with adversity in 2024.
We all painfully remember how utterly pathetic the month of May was for this team.
The club’s best pitcher, Kodai Senga has made just one start all year. Two of the bullpen’s most important pieces, Brooks Raley and Drew Smith were lost for the year early, and the Mets have had to completely rebuild their bullpen on the fly.
Then there’s core pieces like Brandon Nimmo, Pete Alonso, and Edwin Díaz who have all struggled to live up to the back of their baseball cards.
The Mets dug themselves out of a deep early hole with a sensational run between the beginning of June and the all-star break, and after treading water for a month coming out of the break, went on nine game winning streak to propel them right back into playoff position.
So here are the Mets, coming back to Queens for the last homestand of 2024 after going 3-3 on a road trip that very realistically could have been better.
They fortunately got some help from the Dodgers last night to keep them tied with Atlanta for the last wild card spot, so everything is still very much right in front of them.
The Mets begin a three-game series with the Nationals tonight that feels like an absolute must sweep. Obviously every game is critical and the focus has to be on the day at hand, but the Braves schedule over the next week is much less daunting than New York’s.
It’s imperative the Mets take care of business against Washington before seeing Philly again next weekend.
We’re officially at the point of the season where if the Mets can put together one more run it will be enough to charge them right into October.
It has to start tonight. 13 games left to the finish line.
Can they get there?
Around the League 🚩
LHP Mackenzie Gore turned in six strong innings without allowing an earned run, and James Wood blasted two home run in the Nationals 4-3 win over the Marlins
Aaron Judge hit his 53rd home run in the Yankees 5-2 home win over Boston
The Diamondbacks scored three runs in the bottom of the 10th and walked off the Brewers on a game winning hit from Eugenio Suarez
Riley Greene hit two homers and drove in three in the Tigers 4-2 win over the Orioles
Thank you!
Let's hope the chickens aren't coming home to roost along with the Mets. Troubling signs: shaky bullpen, power outages, Pete on a milk carton, and now the MVP out. We'll need at least 9 of the 13 imo. LGM!
