The Mets are making the expected move to call up Ronny Mauricio from Triple-A Syracuse ahead of their game against the Dodgers tonight, according to Mike Rodriguez who covers the Chicago Cubs.
Mauricio is expected to replace Mark Vientos on the active roster, who injured his hamstring during Monday night’s game.
Mauricio, 24, last appeared in the major leagues on October 1, 2023 before tearing the ACL in his knee that December. He missed the entire 2024 season while he recovered from that injury and did not appear in a Grapefruit League game during spring training this year as the Mets played the end of his recovery cautiously. He recently completed a rehab assignment before the Mets optioned him back to Triple-A, but in 73 plate appearances with Syracuse, Mauricio has posted an .891 OPS with three doubles, three home runs and 11 RBI over 19 games.
He posted a .643 OPS in 26 games with the Mets in 2023. He is the Mets ninth-ranked prospect, according to MLB.com.
He signed with the Mets as an international free agent for $2.1 million in 2017
Wonder how the other entities rate him, because he looks a lot better than #9 prospect to me. Super-athletic.
