The Mets have a top prospect tearing it up in Triple-A who could help the Mets now. Plus, the Mets swept away the Giants in San Francisco, head to San Diego for another big series
I'm all for giving Gilbert a shot. Centerfield is not enough of a problem to lose any valuable assets in a trade. I would definitely not trade Baty, we'd eventually regret it.
Yup, agree all the way here. Keep Baty and Mauricio and Vientos, imo. Mix and match at 2B, 3B, SS (if Lindor ever has another back spasm), and DH for Vientos.
So glad Mauricio has gotten the chance to show out. Missing his entire age 23 season after showing some significant flashes in 23 was a heck of a thing to overcome. It was especially cruel as Ronny was hitting .441 with an OPS over 1.100 through the first 8 games at Licey. Ronny also missed the first couple of months of this season and was promoted after only 78 MiLB at-bats. At this age, after that complicated a rehab, I think he’s showing a ton of promise. Lord help the league if he can get even passable as a RHB. I hope the team is as high on him as I am!
Agreed. Dude is a major threat off a major layoff. He’s truly special. Wearing my Mauricio jersey to the game on Saturday if he survives the deadline (which I think he will).
Exactly right, keep your eyes open, don't act like your desperate to make a deal, don't overpay, and let them come to you. The major lineup deficit is in CF, but if the rest produce it is a whole lot less of a problem as his defense out there is way above average. Should be a fun run to the end of the season. I might pay more to get a solid starter, and move McGill to the pen.Make him cut down on his walks, and throw more strikes. He can bring it if your not expecting him to go more than 3 innings
If the “baby Mets” are arriving this team doesn’t need much except the pen. Mauricio (who has the sweetest swing since Strawberry )is showing that MLB pitching isn’t overwhelming him anymore. His glove plays at third with his arm being more than strong enough. Looks like Vientos played himself out of a spot on this team. He is no first baseman either. His glove just sucks and if he can’t hit he’s no use at DH either. The White Sox seem enamored with him from what I’ve heard. It seems the Mets need to choose between Mauricio and Baty plus Acuna. Hate to say it but Baty is my odd man out here. I’m not suggesting they should be packaged for anyone but Robert or Bader looks to be coming to Queens and Minny wants arms. Which Stearns is loathe to do. Gilbert on paper makes sense but we all know MLB is a big step up from AAA. You may rake early on but pitchers are going to find out how to get you out and it will take time for any young batter to adjust. This is a team vying for a deep playoff run and a ring. In Stearns I trust. Senga was Meh. Walking too many and again another 5 inning start. A serious starter may be in Queens before too long. Cease? Alcantara? Time getting short. Deadline approaching. Pads next. LGM!
As far as I know Robert or Bader coming to Queens is just a bit of chatter provided to fans hungry for trade news. I wouldn't give up valuable assets for either of them. I would give up something substantial for Keller or a good reliever like Bednar, though.
We have some prospects to send to Pittsburgh without hurting our long-term plan. We might be able to get both of them.
I suspect Gilbert will be up before too long, so he's out. McLean and Tong are likely untouchable. Sproat may be the centerpiece of the deal, but the Pirates will want some bats, too. They desperately need some pop in their lineup.
But if he really wants to, Stearns should be able to get there.

I'm also a big fan. Extremely athletic guy.
He's a stud. And you're right about him hitting from the right side. If he can get to .250 with just a little pop, look the heck out.
Anyway, for him to be doing what he's doing with such a short stint in the minors after such a long comeback from injury tells us all we need to know.

Oh, he isn't going anywhere. You'll be wearing that jersey a LOT.
Your lips to Stearns’ ears!

Mauricio also has a great arm at 3rd and is VERY smooth defensively. He just needs to stop swinging at that seductive pitch that's down and in.
