I don't think we're quite at the point where we need to trade prospects for a front line starter. Let's see where we are when Senga and Manaea (and maybe Megill, too) are back.
But if it comes to that, Keller is a good fit. I still think — and it pains me endlessly to say this — a trade with Kansas City makes sense, too: they'd love to have Luisangel Acuña to pair with Bobby Witt Jr., and Alvie would be just the guy they'd want to pick up the mantle from Salvador Perez.
You can just imagine the results of that mentoring, by the way.
All that being said, it's going to take a lot to get Stearns to move any future production to fill present needs. He won't pull the trigger unless there really is no in-house solution, even a temporary one.
I agree with avoiding desperation moves. Yesterday I thought they were all over Peterson's curve, break wasn't sharp and he didn't seem to be changing speeds .
He could be in a little dead arm period. Last year around this many IP he went 7 innings in three straight starts, then struck out 11 over six, then got clobbered. But he recovered and went seven again, got clobbered again, then went seven in his last start (and pitched a one-hitter).
So, I suspect he'll go sideways into the All-Star break, get his rest and then come out okay. He looked great in the first inning yesterday and then just lost his feel for it. That spells a touch of fatigue to me.
When Lindor’s not hitting our offense looks like it’s asleep. Was hoping Vientos would come back from his rehab on fire but instead he’s watching fastballs down the middle. The pitching has become non-competitive most nights which is discouraging. Hopefully we can turn things around soon!
Trying to forget last night's game, I hone in on the meaningless ... "Stats of the Day". I wonder how Nimmo spending so much time batting ahead of Soto has that OBP and only 15 runs scored ... and seven were his own HRs.
And yeah, I think a middle of the rotation Keller would fit just fine.
Peterson has pitched poorly since he was featured on this blog, so it's obviously your fault. It's funny that I was going to post that Soto's fielding has been ok, despite the word on the street to the effect that he's a below-average fielder. And then he broke in on Canario's double which would have been an out if he judged it correctly. Routine play, no, but a good fielder would get that ball. I'd love for the Mets to acquire Keller.
Now that we're half way through the season, it's a good time to temper your expectations for this squad. They'll have some good runs - and some rough ones - going forward and their strong start will help the final tally; but barring a blockbuster realignment of the roster what we're seeing is pretty much what we'll get come October.
Bigger picture is that I'm not sure that there's enough real MLB-level talent to go around anymore.

I was at one of his rehab games in Syracuse, and his hardest hit ball was a foul popup, and wasn’t impressed.
"watching fastballs down the middle" just as he was doing pre-IL

Perhaps because a lot of Soto's obp is due to walks and majority of his homers are solo shots.
It looks like Lindor’s broken toe is effecting his play . One more week will make a difference .
