Somehow in this mess of starting pitching, they need to put a rotation together that is not dependant on scoring 10 runs a game and have to hold your breath till the game is over.
I’m pretty confident that when we score 10 runs we can win. Soto has been awesome 👏 I don’t know what to do with the pitching anymore other than call up Sproat and hope he looks like McLean and Tong. And if Megill can be Megill he’ll be better than what we’ve been watching.
Yup. We all lamented megill's inability to get to the 6th but compared to what we've been getting, I'll be quite happy when he returns. Who, going into the season, would have guessed that Senga and manea would crap out so badly?
Juan has been about 30 bips below his career slash pretty much all season. And now, all of a sudden, his OBP and SLG are creeping up closer and closer to his career averages, his OPS is over .900, and chances are he's going to hit somewhere around .265 when the season is done, about the midpoint between last season with the Yankees and 2022, his trade year.
This might be his worst season of the first 10 years of this contract (the first year jinx). And look at what he's doing.
And we ain't seen nothin' yet. Just wait until that last homestand, when it's crunch time and two of the teams coming into Citi after a long road trip are San Diego and Washington. Mark my words, Juan is gonna have a hair across it and be looking to do some damage.
Well, it sure is good not to have to listen to the griping about Soto any more. I think deep within the bosom of every adult male baseball fan is a 12 year old who thinks his team should go 150-12 and sweep the post season, winning games 8-1 daily. And that when his team pays big bucks for a star he should play like a young Mantle/Mays combo with a Clemente arm. Let's be grateful for what we have and Uncle Steve's willingness to reach deep into his pocket.
Ryan Helsley 👉🏽 the Mets need him. How many 4 and 5 out saves is too many for Diaz? The booth and the media talk about 'tipping' his pitches but I can't see how the Mets pitching gurus haven't been able to pick up any tipping after all this time. That being said, it was amazing how the Tigers came out swinging against him and the hard contact they were making. He only threw 5 pitches, 4 of them hard contact, before wisely being pulled. He needs fixing ... and pronto.
I have never, over an awful lot of years, seen a pitching staff disintegrate mid-season like this one has. There's light at the end of the tunnel with the young guys but that tunnel exit may be in 2026. 🤞
I have my doubts about tipping. Why didn't it show up when he was with St. Louis?
More likely he's just missing his spots. He's been walking people, and I think Detroit knew he was coming in with his B+ fastball to get over and they were just sitting dead red.
Despite the win, look at all the ofers in the box score: Lindor 0-3; Alonso 0-4; Vientos 0-3; Baty 0-3. Soto can't carry this team if the key bats do nothing. Nobody asks Mendoza about that.
The first of many I pray. Not just this year of course. It’s coming down again to the question if the Mets are going to sign Big Pete. I know the season isn’t ovah but Pete carried this team a lot this season especially early when they played like the best team in baseball. Personally, I would like him back but you also aren’t going to match 300mil contract for 10 years and from what I’m hearing since the QO can’t be in play this year the Mets might lose one of the best homegrown players ever. That’s of course for the off season to worry about. Too many questions with this team at this point in the season to be considered a real threat now.

While casually forgetting how the Dodgers won a World Series with TWO starting pitchers.

And every trade deadline acquisition has been a disappointment. Soto's been the least bad.

Viva Soto! I like his arm in RF too!
I am concerned about the number of DPs that Alonso hits into though.
And looking forward to seeing Sproat in the bigs soon.
