Without Alonso and Lindor this team would be looking up at the Wild Card. No one else is performing close to expectations. and getting Winker back will make zero difference. He was hitting under .240 with 1 home run. Better than Jared Young maybe but not by much. Production from catcher, 2nd base, 3rd base and DH all below league average.

That's certainly true but as we've had to witness, Lindor is streaky and Alonso can't throw the ball very well. And to nitpick, a lot of us have lowered our expectations for McNeil and Marte and they have pretty much met those lowered expectations. Taylor has also met his (low) expectations as a no hit/good glove centerfielder. But catcher, the third base carousel, well below expectations.

I thought Tidwell looked pretty good. I’ve heard he could end up in the bullpen and I see it. That 99 fastball out for 1 inning is enticing. It feels like Groundhog Day but the offense has to score more runs. It’s been all year. The young guys we all wanted to see are so disappointing. Álvarez needs AAA and I’d also send Mauricio down when Vientos comes back.

Baseball NOT the way it ought to be! I don't have the sophistication and knowledge of a Manager, but I do know sometimes guys need a blow, and you need to shake it up from top to bottom

I've said my piece about Acuña. I get it, McNeil has been producing, but I don't understand why we're leaving our only real speed on the bench. And I don't understand how they expect Luisangel to improve if he's not playing.

Pencil him in. Let him get his reps and learn. He's already made one good adjustment to his stance; one more and he'll be there. And if he starts laying down bunts for hits and gets on and starts moving infielders around, we'll finally be creating some holes.

Right now, we're just SO static. Everyone has us positioned. Even when we hit one on the screws, it's right at someone. We need some speed.

I totally agree. They have not given him a fair shot to show what he can do. If last years sampling is any indication, we'd all look forward to what is to come. Use McNeil as the dh, and take some turns in the corner of, and at 2b when Acuna can give Lindor a blow

This is exactly how I would go. McNeil can DH, play center, play left, sub in at second when Lindor gets a rest day or there's a tough right-hander who is vulnerable to lefty lineups.

But let the kid play.

Acuna should be batting second so we can have a speedster early in the lineup. We need pests in the first two slots. Does Dykstra and Backman ring a bell?

Preach to the choir, brother. I'm old school, too. Put your speed up top and let 3-6 rip and then you just need to be solid 7-9. That's what I thought we were looking at going into the season.

I'm inclined to agree but who do you sit apart from Baty/Mauricio? You can't sit the big 3 and we don't have much choice in center or catcher.

I would rather have Acuña in the lineup than Baty, Vientos or Mauricio at this point. But keeping the focus narrow, it's really about who starts at second. And to me, Luisangel is our best option there.

That is NOT a dig at the Squirrel by any means. I want him in the lineup too. But he can get his reps in a few places, and it's not hard to see us mixing and matching the other veteran left-handed bats like Nimmo and Winker depending on who we're facing.

The bottom line for me is, we lack dynamism. And I won't lie, I love Lindor and Acuña as our double-play combo. We're snappy up the middle when they're out there together.

Long term, we can sort third base, and if it comes down to Mauricio or Acuña getting reps in center, I prefer Mauricio if for no other reason than he has a cannon.

I can't think of a thing to say that hasn't already been said. That being said, I'll go into my whiny little bxxch mode. Andrew says, "Soto needs to turn it on". Soto, it appears to me, is only interested in making every at bat some sort of performance that overshadows the situation and the game itself. He gives eye rolls and umpire stares after 'every' close pitch that doesn't go his way. I see his body language saying, "look at me, look at me". I sense he feels that his at-bat is the event, not the game. But Soto alone, whether my assessment is correct or not, is not THE problem.

I (we?) envisioned 2023 Alvarez and 2024 Vientos hitting somewhere after Pete, as the batting order is currently constructed. It's not happening. Baty had about 10 wonderful days and why again was I (we?) glad to see Mauricio come off the IL?

I (we?) thought the pitching was a gamble. They were winning, now they're losing. I (we?) thought they had one of the longest, strongest lineups in MLB. Big time losing. The lineup, when working, should be able to carry Taylor's bat because of his glove in CF.

See? It's all been said, IMO, and the warts are the warts. Would I be overreacting if I put a paper bag over my head when watching a game in the privacy of my living room? LGM

Don't think you're being fair to Soto, not at all. On the contrary, I think he's good at getting along with umps. He's the least of our problems. Maybe electro-shock therapy can help this team?

Who's cold? The ENTIRE fucking team. The defense, which okay at best, has been putrid. There is NO ace, Can we send Avarez back to the minors already? Senga can't stay healthy. Senga also has to be handled gently.

In case you forgot, let me take a moment to remind you:

Two pitchers had a total of 3,000 or more strikeout, 300 or more wins, and an E.R.A. under 3.00 Walter Johnson and George Thomas Seaver.

Seaver threw hard, but he subtracted VERY well. While deGrom and, a far lesser extent, Senga can start games, dig this.During his tenure with the Mets, Seaver made 108 starts in which he pitched 9 or more innings and allowed 1 run or less. His record in those starts is 93 - 3 with 12 no-decisions. In seven of the 12 no-decisions, he pitched 10 or more innings. In the 12 no-decisions, he pitched a total of 117 innings, allowing 56 hits and 5 earned runs, compiling a 0.38 ERA.|

"Entering Friday, the Mets were hitting an NL-worst .215 with runners in scoring position."

Of all our problems, that's the biggest one because it's not related to injury. The rotation will be fine once everyone is healthy. The bullpen would have been fine with a healthy Minter, plus Danny Young, and we can find replacements on the block come Deadline Day.

But we're not getting anywhere if our lineup isn't producing. It forces everyone to press at the plate, on the mound and in the field. And if you're pressing, you're making mistakes.

And that's why we're playing like crap right now.
