I think the boys went out and got a little drunk after sweeping Philadelphia and they were literally hungover yesterday. It sure looked that way.
All joking aside, yesterday wasn't a surprise. It was teed up to be a letdown game. There are a few of them every season. Wipe it clean and move on.
Although while we're at it, how about a few kudos for Clay Holmes. Don't look now, but he's averaging a little over 5 innings per start and he's 11-6 with a 3.60 ERA.
That's from a 32-year-old who's been a reliever his entire career. He's now at double the IP of his previous season high, and that was in 2021 (his ERA that season: 3.60).
So yeah, it would be great if he was going deeper, but there are limits for what you can ask of a guy. I think he's given us all we could have hoped for.
It's hard to make up a six-game deficit. Yesterday shows that. You have a bad game & the other team goes crazy. And you are back to five games back.
So I won't worry about the division race now. The Marlins are tough. Detroit is coming up. Just play each game & yes, let's enjoy another young stud coming up.
This is what we are talking about with this team. They go and build good vibes then shit the bed as they looked like the team that had the losing record last nite. It was terrible baseball to even watch. Can we please finally end the Holmes as a starter this year? Puhleeease?? Have him piggy back Manaea and Senga’s starts. If you can switch them up to make that possible. He’s not going to go longer than 5 innings because he hasn’t all season. Sure, a handful of times he has and credit to him for taking the ball every turn but my god it’s painful to watch anymore. Last nite just reminded me why I have no faith in this team making a long run. Ok. Yes. It’s Tong time. I have a feeling he’s going to have a special nite. I’m taking over 8K’s on my parlay. I just feel the Marlins team is full of rookies which is basically what Tong has seen to this point in his career. If the team plays some good defense he should pick up the W. Excited to see the kid and this should have been done a month ago. Like we have all been clamoring for.
Many make excuses for Alonzo .....he repeatedly fails to lead the pitcher correctly in his throws. I have Season Ticket and record many Braves games and their first baseman NEVER effs up a throw. I'd have Pete do 100 simulated throws after the game and then bench him for tonites game. McNeil showed poor baseball IQ with his poor decision making...Don't the coaches try to address these errors??? They keep occurring over and over & over again.
