Great young player who's seized the 2nd base job. Sometimes looks overmatched at the plate but that should get better with more experience. An example, btw, of someone who did not excel in AAA but got it done when they got their chance in the majors. Mr. Macleod sure likes saying "literally", doesn't he? And the win probability stat doesn't float my boat. One more thing: it seems that the best pitch to hit is delivered to Soto on the first pitch and he almost always takes. Looked it up and it looks like I'm wrong: he's swung at first pitch 38 times in 188 plate appearances.
To add on, he can look overmatched on strike 1 and strike 2, but I’m also impressed at the way he changes approach with two strikes. Acuña takes so mighty whiffs early in the count. But he has surprised me a lot in the last year by having a number of deep at-bats that seem to start 0-2 or 1-2. He doesn’t strike me as a player who can spoil 4 or 5 pitches and make a closer, for example, work a lot harder than he wants. But he definitely does.
This is exactly why I think he's going to develop into something truly special. Acuña is competitive in almost every AB, and when he looks overmatched the first time he sees a pitcher, he invariably does better the second time.
In fact, whenever he makes a mistake — and he's going to make them just as every young player will — anywhere on the field, he doesn't repeat it the next time the same situation arises. He learns. He improves.
Great points. He really has a tremendous amount of calm for a youngster. Middle infield at MLB level is super fast. Took my guy Reyes two full years after his leg issues to really settle in (though he came up at a younger age). Also, Acuña’s already impressive running game will only improve as he familiarizes himself with the moves of pitchers.
What Luisangel did last year was damn near impossible- he came up to replace the heart and soul of the team while manning shortstop. It’s a rare prospect that can pretty much seamlessly fill in for Francisco Freakin’ Lindor in a stretch of games where every day is important to the team’s playoff chances. The makeup and baseball IQ is there and he definitely has a variety of talents. He even showed pop last year. That too will come as he gets his own book on pitchers. He’s just a very exciting young player!
Gotta love the much needed speed Acuna brings to the team. Good to see Vientos starting to hit. Great bounce back from Peterson. Can we stop bringing in Butto with runners on. He’s let 6 of 8 inherited runners score.
Speed kills (defenses)...go go Acuna!

Hey I only said it twice this time 😂
And you didn't say "incredible" even once, for which I'm grateful!

I think we have a real one on our hands.

A win is a win, Acuna has arrived, just play him every day, and mostly all is well in Metland!

Acuna with the Reyes Run!
