Why does Mendoza keep getting a free pass? Three years in a row with LONG stretches of ineptitude from a 'talented' roster. If the guys like him and aren't performing, maybe there needs to someone unlikeable in charge to light a fire. There is NO excuse for all the mental lapses and lackadaisical approach to routine baseball activity. That's about preparation and accountability .. and THAT is on the manager. For example, next time Lindor doesn't run hard to first on a routine ground ball, BENCH him. I understand these guys are getting paid a lot regardless of their performance, but it's not like the current 'be patient' approach is working. Fans are sick of hearing that. Maybe a few bruised egos are the answer. 🤷
I have to admit I did not see this coming. I figured we’d hit less HRs but I thought we had better overall hitters in the lineup. I’m not sure how this turns around because I don’t know that Baty, Vientos, Semien are MLB hitters anymore and Polanco looks like we signed an injured player.
Wondering how much the two trips to the west coast has messed with their stuff. Today is only the second day off (not including the day after opening day).
Bad numbers:
Outscored 12 runs to 44 during this 8 game losing stretch!
Only scored more than 2 runs in one of those games.
I'm not one to advocate the firing of a manager since he does very little in terms of hitting, fielding and throwing. However he is the leader of the clubhouse and sets the rules and standards for his team. He needs to wipe the smug smile off Lindor's face (just one of a few) when he botches a play, has another mental lapse or weakly grounds out. Right now the is a bunch of lollygaggers. I can't see Mendoza inspiring, scaring or being alpha on a major league level. I laughed off the firing talk, but it clear he does need to go.
The lack of competitive intensity is really becoming an issue. Since June 13 of last year, this has been a flat, inconsistent ballclub on a consistent basis. 😆
The roster overhaul hasn't changed anything. At least not yet. My gut tells me this homestand is make or break for Mendy.
They say they know they need to improve (you don't have to be a genius to figure that out), they say they know what needs to be done, but they don't do it! Less talk and more action on the field!
This is getting old. I just don't understand why they are not good at the fundies. Stearns hired a new coaching staff. These are pro players who are not new to baseball. There is NEVER a good excuse for bad fundies. While I do think they will turn it around, it's becoming harder and harder to believe they'll do anything in the playoffs. IF they make the playoffs. Playoffs?!? https://youtu.be/NK3Jx2yvtVE?si=4BPLAPl71gr7ZTYU
Since June 12 of last season the Mets have had 4 streaks of losing at least 7 games. I’m begging to hear “Fire Stearns” that is dumb. He’s not going anywhere because firing someone in his position is like the sinking of the Titanic. It would mean changing the whole leadership of the organization. Guys who came with him in the minors and have begun to produce at least now talked about prospects. The Mets need to have a serious talk right now about the direction of the club though. Let’s say the losing keeps going would a complete tear down be the worst for this club? It hasn’t happened since the 90’s and I’m sure it’s not something Cohen would want to do with the casino and soccer stadium being built. It would require a serious sit down with him and you’d be wasting a couple years of Soto and Lindor who you can’t move would have to deal with it. I don’t know what the 5th year option Soto has in depth so maybe you lose him? Idk. You would trade everyone though. Bichette,Peralta, Robert and then figure out what you have. I’m not sure Baty and Vientos are big leaguers. I’m about ready to send Baty down with no guarantee he comes back at the moment. I think you give Mauricio a serious look with the same rope you gave Vientos and Baty to see if he’s real. Bring up other kids to fill in the rest of the holes. It’s not what would be preferred but we are six months of being a bottom 5 team in MLB according to our record and I don’t see much changing. I believe guys won’t be this bad the whole season. I really don’t think this is a 3.5 runs per game team but does everyone start hitting at the same time and the rest comes together for a long period of time? I’m not so sure. We have plenty of guys with pedigree and big contracts but it seems something is fundamentally wrong with this franchise right now and since June of last year. What it is I don’t have that answer. I just don’t see an 87-90 win team here. I pray I eat my words. I really do but I’ve seen enough Mets seasons be over by now to know this is going to be even harder to turn around should this team not win 2 outta 3 in Chicago. That’s a team scuffling right now too so the Mets need to pull it together and fast. Has such high hopes for this season and it sure looks like there isn’t much to hope for right now.

Bench him for whom, exactly?

Shutout 3 times!
Stearns should be firming up his résumé.

Could it be Beltran time?
