I think they’ll be fine defensively. I always took the “run prevention” quote to mean defense but more so pitching. The BP right now with Manaea and Garcia is shaky. More importantly the bats need to wake up, especially Lindor.

I’d argue Robert hasn’t been great in CF either. Certainly hasn’t been the gold gloved he has been. MClean is going to be the new deGrom it seems. The guy gives up 2 runs and takes the loss and it was the pen that gave him that final line. It’s time for Mendy to allow these guys to get out of tough situation. Yes, I know he had 100 pitches but 10/15 more would’ve done what? If you don’t allow guys to get out of jams they don’t build the character to do it. Mclean didn’t seem tired. His stuff was still doing fine and he hasn’t lost any speed or movement. Two games in a row the pen blew it. Garcia needs to go. We have Kimbrel ready and the sooner we get rid of him the better the Mets will be. The Mets have kids ready to fill the bullpen and the sooner they get here to more experience they will gain for hopefully the playoff push. Which is right now really as we all know EVERY game counts. Recall Vientos made decent plays at third too. He is a fucking DH for shit sake. Keep him there. Dropped a foul pop two days ago and the throw home cost a run. So much for run prevention. This team and cold weather is a historical issue. Never a good foreboding for October and November that’s for sure.

Brother Schwartz, is the vulgarity needed to make your point? I don't think pulling McLean this time was that bad of a decision. I think later this season you'll see him left in in similar situations. Absolutely, Garcia needs to go. He's had one good outing and 4 or 5 bad ones. I'd give Vientos some more time at first and see how it shakes out.

I’ll apologize for the profanity but I’m sick of this team constantly trying to fit a round peg into a square hole. They do all the time and it costs the team games. The world sees it and it drives me nuts.

Gosh that thought popped into my l'il head too when they showed McCleans face while in the dugout. 'Is this MY fate too when every time I pitch 0/1 run game for 6 inn., the offense nonexistent, the BP comes in to blow it up??" Watching the offense & BP eff up DeGroms potential Hall of Fame career breaks my heart to this day.

We are fourth in defensive runs saved this season?

According to Baseball Savant, Mets have 1 Run Prevented and 1 Outs Above Average this season, which is 13th in MLB. FWIW.

For sure, and I don’t think we have the best defense in the league or anything, but being above the 50% mark in fielding is fine by me. I just think that journalistically- calling into question the teams “survivability” when the season is 15 games in and the defense has been serviceable at least is a red herring. Our IL is more of a concern and then Lindor’s bat is asleep, but he’s been slow to start many years and only had half a spring training after had surgery.

How great would it to have been if Seaver could have shared his knowledge with McClean concerning all aspects of pitching. It is similar to last year with the offense, feast or famine.

The article doesn't mention the dropped ball in center by Robert, which I think was a less difficult play than the one in right by Baty. And there's no "playing out of position" theme with that one.

Defensive woes are NOT an aberration. Gifted athletes will do their best and perform fairly well when out of position, but inexperience will bite them. Remember when the Dodgers rotated and pulled off a double or triple play? That's mental smart & coordination/chemistry.
