The Mets should put an end to all the speculation and just extend Pete Alonso. It would be a mistake to let the leading HR hitter in the game go to another team. He is the face of the Mets and should be signed long term. We don't need getting sucked into these stories every so often. Just extend him now.

The Mets should have offered a contract to the Polar Bear last winter along with Nimmo and McNeil.

It certainly would have be bigger that those two combined but as Mine said in the post, trading him away would be as big a blunder as the Seaver trade was 46 years ago.

He’s the face of the franchise right now and a prolific power hitter that can be counted on for his ability on both sides of the ball.

The Mets need to make him a Mets for the next 8 to 10 years.

100% agree with everything you report here

As a very old Met fan, June 15, 1977 still stings.

We never should have gotten rid of Seaver, and Pete will be our Seaver.

Murphy, Turner, Doc, Darryl, Mitchell were also players we should have kept.

I think Jacob should have been kept as well.

Pete needs to be a Met for life

Mets will kill their reputation if they don’t find a way to keep Pete. Dump the asshat GM IF U WANT TO SAVE MONEY. He sucks. And forget Otani. yes, Pete worth the large contract. (This would be a Seaver mistake to let him go).

That’s a 2 way street. Players have gotten cold too. Pete will move his family across the country if some west coast team offers 202 million when the Mets offer 200. Loyalty is a 2 sided street. I believe Mets have engaged him in extension talks and he either isn’t engaging and wants to test market or is asking for so much that it’s pushed us in this direction.

Well written as usual. Alonso is valuable. The issue is whether he’ll accept a contract below Freddie Freeman level. Freeman is a top first baseman hitter and better fielder although fewer HR. Or does he insist on Aaron Judge money which might be more than the Mets can pay and build a team. Agents are part of the dehumanization, too. I’d love to see Pete hit 500 as a Met. I’d love more for the Mets to win a championship. As long as those two work together sign him. If they don’t, anyone is tradeable.

Completely agree with your reasoning here. Great points. I'd be very sad to see Alonso go.
