I’ve no doubt that Tatis could handle center. It might take a little time for him to adjust there but the kid is a great athlete and with what you get with him it would be worth it. Still, I feel Benge will get the chance all spring training to grab the position. Stearns is adamant about integrating youth and home grown players within the team. Baty deserves the third base spot. He hit lefties really well this past year. He had what 17 homers? Over a full season and not dicking around putting Vientos out there he’s good for 25 and maybe 30 in a great year. He made some sweet plays last season. There was a barehanded play that saved a game I recall. I’m also not discounting Acuna getting second base. Remember too he is young real young. I feel he can become a real gap to gap hitter that can translate into 10-12 triples with his speed. He could steal 40/50 bases? If Diaz somehow leaves I’d look at Senga to close. When he came up in Japan he was first in the pen. Idk if he can do 3 outta 4 days but Stearns knows he can’t count on him making 30 starts so where else can you find value with him? Hot stove. Baby!

Did we miss out on Naylor, or was there really never any interest in bringing him to Queens? For me, he was the best option for first base/designated hitter, with or without Alonso returning.

The Mets will have to meet or exceed any other team's offer for Alonso. They can't do without him, especially since the talk is that he won't complain if part time DH. Signing Bellinger would hugely improve this team, sliding CF to first, when Alonso is the DH.

Hard to see us making any big moves with what's available out there. Benge is probably going to get the chance at center in Spring Training. Third is Baty's job to lose with Vientos as a backup.

For his part, figure Swaggy to primarily DH if he doesn't get moved for pitching (probably the only deal which works is Alcantara). Although it's possible Marte gets brought back for one more rodeo, which would complicate things for Vientos.

I'm all for Acuña getting his chance at second. If run prevention is the deal, that's the guy to go to there. Jett Williams is waiting if he doesn't prove out. Both are young, but what the heck, ya gotta start somewhere.

We're fine at catcher with the Troll starting and Torrens as a backup, provided Alvarez is healthy.

So, as usual, it comes down to pitching.

Ok, Padres ownership is looking into selling the team. How do we do from there to having them unload the cornerstone of the team? If there's near-zero chance of something happening, why spill ink on the subject? Same for Schwarber signing with the Mets. But thanks for giving Baty his due.
