The youngsters have been shining bright and earning their place, but they're an unproven element for a playoff series. Also - the Mets won a series against the Padres this week
I think the Mets are kinda stuck regarding the answer to who is going to be in the rotation should they make the playoffs. You gotta ride the hot hand regardless of age or experience. The outcome will be what it may because they put themselves in this spot. Stearns went on the cheap with the rotation going into the season and we don’t have a single arm that he signed or went into the season with they can trust. This is the situation they are in. If the kids carry them all the better but it also gives them experience going forward and that will be invaluable for next year on. Should they get in again next year we won’t be asking this question. Stearns better of learned from this. YOU NEED A STUD EVERY FIFTH DAY!MaClean or Tong or Sproat or Scott may wind up being that guy but it would be nice to have a Skuball or Cease or Crochett or Cole on this rotation.
AND NOT THE NIMMO 3 RUN HOMER EXTENDING THE LEAD TO METS UP 5-1.....

>After the Padres briefly tied the game 1-1, Juan Soto untied it in the bottom of the third with an RBI groundout to give the team a 2-1 lead, a lead the Mets would not relinquish and send them on their way to a critical series win over the Padres.
So with Suera we will be at 47 (Jesse Orosco) for number of pitchers used. This should be a focus, because while it is great we have a depth of expendable arms and a willingness to use them for an outing or two and send them on the way if they either eat up too many innings or whatever, it also shows a lack of a plan. We are now heading into the final two weeks of the season with 3 rookie starters, David Peterson struggling after carrying staff for half the year, and tag/team in Senga and Walker, 3 guys we just called up, two we dont trust (stanek/Helsley) and three guys we do (Rogers, Raley, Diaz). And I dont trust Diaz in a tight spot due to his inability to control the running game. And he is not the Diaz of 22 when he just ate people up. And we still might get more BP guys up between now and the end.
Unless my calculation is off the magic number to clinch is 8. Keep winning 2 games of each remaining series. Chances of catching the Padres are remote, so just keep it rolling. I agree, to make any noise in the post season it will rest on the 3 young pitchers

As of now I’m going with McLean, Manaea/Holmes, Peterson/Sproat piggyback. I’d still put Tong in the BP I think. Helsley can’t be on a playoff roster.
