Winkler is a guy you love to have on your team, that the other teams do not like. He brings a little attitude to the team, and never complained and supported his teammates. I'd want him.

My big concern about J.D. is his inability to get around on the fastball late last year. He missed way, way too many, or fouled off what normally would be hittable pitches for him.

Were he a little younger, I would absolutely put it down to his missing Spring Training and just being gassed late. But at this age, the likelihood his batspeed is fading increases.

I'd love to have him on the staff as a hitting coach if he decides it's time to hang 'em up, though. And if he wants to come into Spring Training and take a shot at making the roster one more time, by all means let's bring him in.

Is there enough room for Winker and Siri on this team? They are both quick to make enemies in the opposing dugout with unbridled passion rubbing some the wrong way.

Marte. Period.

The possibility of signing both JD and Winker is exactly zero

Only allowed 13 position players:

Vientos

Lindor

McNeil

1b (hopefully Pete)

Alvy

Torrens

Nimmo

Soto

Siri

Taylor

Marte

That leaves 2 spots. At least one, and likely both, have to go to infielders

There is zero chance both JD and Winkler are back, and hardly any chance either comes back.

The only way Winker comes back is if they dump Marte (which I would be for).

JD cannot hit righties anymore, cannot play a position. There is no chance he will be in MLB this coming year

I don't think J.D. comes back either way, but this assumes that none of McNeil, Taylor or Marte get dealt this winter. Teams also are allowed to have more than 13 position players, though it's usually not likely.

The limit of 13 only applies to pitchers.

It will be 13-13 for sure.

No way it is not.

I hope Marte is traded but who would want him? In the NBA expiring contracts are valuable due to the cap, but not MLB.

Maybe the Tigers if Mets pay 15m of the salary.

Still, JD is toast. Even if he could hit a bit, wasting a roster spot on a pure DH is very suboptimal, and unless the DH has a 900 OPS it will not happen

I like Winker and actually believe he can be adequate in the OF.

I agree that the team will certainly carry the max pitchers (13) - especially since they’ve already said they plan on using a 6 man rotation

JD was great early- even helped sparked the Mets run late May into June to get back into contention. But come playoffs he was an easy-out. Not sure it’s worth rolling the dice with him anymore.

As for Winker- heck yeah. He’s a perfect fit. Get him back on a nice two year offer!
