Soto...lack of hustle in the field and out of the batters box. Such a bad example for younger players. But supposedly a great work ethic with his hitting. Can someone talk to him about this? Is he unapproachable? He says he wants to be a complete ball player. We do not have anyone to do this...In the dugout or the front office. We have so many other problems also. It just seems we are so far away after being so close to a World Series appearance not long ago.
"Juan Soto couldn’t handle a routine fly ball"...and yet some on this site and elsewhere have said he's the only "watchable" Met. I don't get it. Yje ball going under him for the "little league" homer was bad. Not hustling going after it is the crime.
I wish we had a Johnny Franco, Al Leiter and Todd Zeile contingent to call his ass out on this shit.
Or a Don Baylor type.
The next manager has a lot to work with, but he needs to be able to hold these players accountable, and get J. D. Martinez as his hitting coach. Also, no fancy approach, please.

I'd be interested to know how many managers currently exist who are willing to walk up to their best players and say, for example, "You've got to start hustling and playing defense like you care"? Any? There's such a thing as too much tenderness...
Funny, I was on the verge of commenting that this is a society-wide phenomenon but didn't. An example is that I've observed some people who under no circumstances will say "no" to either their kids or their dog!
Agree that Lindor is declining. Why aren't they giving Mauricio an extended run to finally figure out if they have a player or not? Related to that, isn't it time to part ways with Vientos? There have been many players who had one good season and/or great post-seasons who could never duplicate it. Looks like he's one.
A writer on MLBTR pointed out that against southpaws he's not that bad. Maybe there's a team out there looking for the right side of a DH platoon but that's a luxury. My guess is the best they can do is some team's 15th ranked prospect. Remember the Gregg Jefferies days when they kept looking for a place in the field to hide him and couldn't find one?
I watch this team every night and the mental lapses are astonishing. And the look on the players faces is like, oh well, oops, maybe I will do better next time. :(

Is there a prospect who is a real 1st Baseman anywhere close to the big leagues?
If not, is there a team willing to trade such a person for any of the people on the trading block this month?
