Problem with Peralta is his extension, arm slot and his secondary pitches. Fast ball Freddie never had elite velocity. It was his extension that made is fastball look faster than is was. He no longer has that extension which is making his velocity look average.
They bought high on Peralta and nobody should be surprised if he never returns to last year's performance level. Sproat, although improving some lately, hasn't been a world beater and Williams is not killing it in AAA, so the trade is looking ok at this point especially if they get a good prospect when they trade Peralta later this year.
