I’m more confidently optimistic than ‘cautiously optimistic’ about Lindor next season. Why? Jose Ramerez. Understand he suffered the same injury Lindor did. Look at that guy’s MLB pedigree and look at his season this year. Then revisit Lindor’s data. Bet next year they are their usual selves.
I’m no hand doctor, but I’ve heard others speak about the goofy little bone both guys broke and the comment is always the same: ‘it takes a year and there is nothing you can do to rush it.’
Now look at the both of their fielding. Superb career defenders looking like doofuses. No way that is a coincidence. Footwork odd, look terrible. Respectfully, I’d bet if you were playing the left side of a MLB infield and (consciously or subconsciously) protecting a busted bone in your hand, you would be moving in unnatural ways too. And probably screwing up what you have done in world class ways since you were a little kid.
No argument getting older changes things (that I DO know about…), but I’m not worried about Lindor. Respectfully, Mets have much bigger problems to solve…
Like Jason Miles, I would bet on Lindor. The catches author states correctly that Lindor is a generational player. We are not living inside Lindor’s body to know how he was feeling. We have seen other players take a year before they fully recover. While numbers do tend predict trends, they don’t always show the mettle a person is made from. I do read many pieces and I can’t think how us die-hards are beaten down masochists expecting the worst. (I’ve got a bad case being one year younger than the franchise) I also hope for the best.
Maybe bets should be taken in the predictions market about what kind 2027 Francisco Lindor will have.. I would put that he’s going to have a very steady year and his defense is gonna get better.. because in a position like he plays, there’s no doubt about it that it could take almost a year to get oneself back up to speed.. you know he’s gonna work hard and I would just not even get into saying anything about what could be should be has to be and what will happen.. because neither you nor I or anybody else knows.. I know one thing though he will give it the best that he has and I can’t say after this year, but I give ball players to 35 years old before there could be a slip.. if anything start talking about what you’re gonna do with Marcus Simeon, who, for some elite second base that everybody talked about looked like like a second tier player, and they gave a Brandon Nimmo for him.. and he contributed very little.. how about some bets on where the Mark Vientos is going to be on the team?.. (hopefully not) or whether Beau will also be there
