Nido would be fine. I have no idea who might be out there, but I'd begin searching for a serviceable catcher. Torren will be fine to go with for now.

I was looking forward to seeing Alvarez new swing 👎 just like you the first thing I thought was It’s Nido Time. He’s Lindor’s best friend so I could definitely see that happen.

Feels a lot more appetizing than signing McCann who underperformed badly when he was with the Mets. On the other hand, why did they sign Reetz if they didn't think he was potentially a serviceable backup major league catcher? He's actually been a decent hitter in the minors.

I think there's a difference between bringing in a depth guy you think could fill in for a week or two, and going outside the organization for someone you're more confident can cover a longer absence. If they stay in house, Reetz is the clear choice. To me, though, going to get Nido makes too much sense not to happen. The bigger issue is the lack of genuine in house catching depth. If Torrens were to go down while Alvarez is still out they're really in trouble. Nido is a good enough MLB back-up that will get a job elsewhere if the Tigers let him go. The Mets should get a jump on that.

I have a soft spot for guys in their mid to late 20s who've shown some promise but never gotten a real shot in the majors. Add Luke Ritter to that list. If it doesn't work out, isn't there always a supply of good glove no hit catchers who can be picked up?
