Alvarez is a liability behind the plate. An Inability to block pitches in the dirt & he has zero ability to throw out basestealers. I truly believe Torrenz put fear into runners and he dissuaded many from stealing.....after months of gunning down runners. What is more valuable....a home run now and then or a gun behind the plate? Mets must choose as we have no Johnny Bench. I actually thought Alverez had the potential....we shall see.
All core issues that you note. Some might need outside intervention through the stretch run accusations. I'd go about 2 weeks and hope Vientos and Alvarez get back to form, and if not do what needs to be done. Adding the right mix to the pen, and if a starter can be obtained would be terrific!
Another guy I suspect is on the radar would be Kris Bubic of the Royals. Kansas City would love to have a second baseman to pair with Bobby Witt Jr., and as much as it pains me to say it, Acuña fits the bill.
But if I had to guess, I'd say Stearns would rather have Keller. That's especially true if Holmes goes to the 'pen as the long reliever and bulk guy (which he very well might). Stearns would want another righty.

Alvie is so young, he still has a chance. But he really needs to show out when he comes back up, and not just at the plate.

If I were Stearns, I'd be willing to pay a substantial price for Keller.
