If Benge rakes in ST I’d feel much better bringing him north starting the season in the Bigs. Isn’t Belli another left handed bat? This team doesn’t need another one of them unless he is filling the first base position after Pete has left. I feel there is a guy that isn’t mentioned and not on anyone’s radar that could be the CFer next season and it’s not Robert. Pete is the first deal that needs to be addressed.
Agreed. The hope is Benge is our center fielder. If not right out of ST then at some point next season. I wouldn’t mind bringing Bader back as a stop gap. Bellinger would be interesting too because I don’t want to see Nimmo playing LF every day either.
I think the Mets should go big this off season and really swing for the fences. Aside from Benge and McClean. Every player in the minor leagues should be available to trade and they should land Skubal and another FA. I like King but Cease would do or Valdez. Cease isn’t the top line pitcher everyone believes he is as he has more stinkers than you would want from an ace. Also they should bring back Basset. He would be a good mentor for McClean and eats innings for the back of the rotation. I doubt there will be baseball for at least a year after the lockout happens so the Mets should really go for it.
Another kid is coming up right behind Benge. Made it to AA last season .... Nick Morabito. With the team tied up long term at the corners, unless there's movement to 1B, they've got to be careful about long term in CF.
It's thin out there. At least with Taylor, we got a guy who can go and get it. But not having a stick in center is suboptimal, and I don't see a lot of options in the market. We might have to hope we can solve this issue internally.
If we get a full season of a healthy Baty at third and a full season of a healthy Alvie behind the dish, that should lengthen us enough to help, especially if we can fill the DH role with a consistent producer (which we might already have). Get .280 and 20 HR 65 RBI out of a centerfielder who can field and that would be fine.
Is Benge the guy who can do that? There's only one way to find out.
Off-subject, I know: mike trout has 3 seasons of 100 or more ribs. Alonso 4. He can't be let go, there'll be a gaping hole. Unless we conjure a miracle with Soto moving to first and signing Kyle Tucker .

if those are the only free agent options Stearns needs to make a trade
How can the Mets even consider a .235 hitter?

Too optimistic to think benge is ready. Bellinger is by far the best solution. It's a thin market. Taylor is a good 4/5 outfielder.
