I agree with everything said here but would also include Juan Soto. He may be a great player, but his lackadaisical attitude is poison on a team of younger players.
Completely agree. IMO the Mets as an organization were turning things around before his signing, his stats are great, but it just seems like something changed, that something just seems off with the team overall. Could be my imagination and I could be completely wrong, but as I said, just my opinion.
It is definitely imagination and completely wrong. The thing that changed in the single year prior to his arrival is that they had solid starting pitching for the 2024 season, especially in the second half and most especially down the stretch. The Mets organization had turned zero corners before Soto's arrival. They were extremely fortunate after years of turnover and lack of a cohesive long term roster plan. That extended back to well before Steve Cohen bought the team in the fall of 2020. Soto does not pitch, that was a known fact about his baseball ability when he was signed.
They are not trading one of the top 3 hitters in the game after 2 years of a 15 year contract. They did not make that negotiation to even contemplate such a ridiculous idea.
100 percent. They didn't secure multiple options at starting pitching to bulletproof their roster, and it has cost them, each of the past two seasons (yes, I'm also including their '24 run in this). Those offering a brain dead take to trade Soto is driven either from jealousy, bitterness, projection, and even a tinge of racism. And if you wanna ignore all that, there's few teams who could absorb the contract, unless you get the wink wink that he's opting out after year 5, and you can move on from him. He's the single best hitter in the sport, right now, and the only winner on your team (Minter being the other). It'd be foolish to send him out the door, without massive compensation AND getting back underwater contracts.
Hey call Texas up! Maybe you can get Nimmo and deGrom back, along with Dubya's art collection.
I can’t remember a trade that the Mets have done where they kept one prospect over another and the prospect they kept turned out to be the better player. It’s happened many times and been done by many different front offices. I could be wrong but it just seems that way. Either way, haven’t been to a game all year, and watched almost none. There was a time where i would at least watch almost every single game. That time has past.
Can we really trust Sterns when it comes to trades? Or signing the right manager? Or even signing the right players. Just numbers with Sterns. And his batting average is just as bad as the Mets with RISP. We need Sterns Prevention!
Mets send Bo back to Toronto with an agreement that they send $10 million and the Jays send a propsect back each year that he stays under contract. The teams agree that it will be a prospect in the MLB Pipeline report in the top 7 on the anniversary date of the trade.
There are only 4 position players that are worth keeping, the 3 outfielders and Alvarez. I have no issues with Lindor the way some fans create phantom issue about these guys, he simply is going to be making big money during his age 33-37 seasons and the Mets cannot afford to have a compromised payroll in the rest of Juan Soto's prime if a salary cap comes into play. McLean and Scott should stay from the pitching staff, everything else should be available. They need to refit the prospect pool to be able to make off season trades given a putrid FA class. They also need to have Polanco have a good second half so they could potentially flip him in the offseason as well.
Lindor also has 10-and-5 rights, meaning he can veto any trade. The Mets can try to be as cold as they want, but Lindor holds EVERY card in this instance.
Can we offer our visionary leader Mr. Stearns to the market? Ownership has shown a willingness to subsidize the delta between excessive compensation and true value.
So, next year we just transplant the Syracuse Mets to Queens? And all the pitchers currently struggling in AAA will improve in the major leagues because the competition is easier? Offloading all of our effective relievers will make for an interesting 2027, er, maybe not?
I'd keep Williams and Weaver, probably, since they are available next season. Open mind if something ridiculous is offered. But for average return, better to keep them.
I don't know about Soto. It's rather academic. Who would take that contract? If someone did with some good return, or most of it, hey, no reason to take it off the table.
The concern for me is Stearns. Can we trust him to make any really big move? Trading spare parts should be okay. I think they can get some serviceable innings-eater starter as a toss-in somewhere along the way. A player like Senga, I would cut bait with for nearly anything.
They got rid of the old vets significantly as a way to move on. Let's do that with a few more players, if more cheaply.
I’d keep Williams, Weaver and Brozaban unless I was blown away by the prospect return because we’ll need a bullpen next year. I’m keeping Alvarez and Torrens too. The rest, including Lindor, can go for the right returns.

Let’s be real, there’s no scenario where anybody has either the farm system or the bank account or both to add Soto to their roster.
Yankees ? I’m not saying he should be traded, just not be untouchable

Is this Soto’s burner account. ? Nice take, don’t agree at all, but nice.

I agree. Just yesterday, he was thrown out at second base for not running hard from the moment he hit the ball. It was a disgrace.
Let's not forget the little league homer that he did not hustle after it.
At least the steroid-laden Manny Ramírez was entertaining.

Nimmo had a full trade clause. You only get to use the get of jail card likely once.

Just a thought….
I said in the beginning, that this was no longer Milwaukee. I'd LOVE to say I was wrong...
So, next year we just transplant the Syracuse Mets to Queens? And all the pitchers currently struggling in AAA will improve in the major leagues because the competition is easier? Offloading all of our effective relievers will make for an interesting 2027, er, maybe not?
They got any good right arms left in that pen?
Asking for a pirates fan lol.
The bigger question is, @Michael Baron, where did you go for vacay? We need some happy news here!

Unless it was edited, there was a reference to salvaging the series. They play another game. So they have a chance to split.
