Marte shouldn't be part of the conversation at this point. Repost this in mid-late January

Agreed. He put together a decent year (look at his OPS) after looking washed in the early going, and he was downright cooking in July. He might have something left in the tank.

But no doubt Stearns is going to wait and see how Marte's market develops before even thinking about an offer.

Would he be good as a coach? 1 year contract -.- lot less $ - keeping Soto happy is a legit plan

Disagree that it's a tough call. It's an easy one. Time to part ways.

Marte has no legs left. You can see it in his swing. His double stroke is gone. He can barely get the ball in the air. I think clubhouse guys are something the fans make a big deal about because in reality this is a job to baseball players. They for the most part are playing for that next contract and seeing what guys are getting paid it behooves them to play at the best they can be daily. Marte got his last payday and I’d assume he can go be a clubhouse guy someplace else. The Mets need production from every player on the roster and Marte can’t play the field but only in a pinch. His knees are shot and so are his hips. Appreciate the years but it’s time to move on. A younger guy who can play daily for an injury and be a late base runner has more value than him.

Common sense would tell you he doesn't really have a place on the 2026 roster. It would also tell you that he's Soto's boy and was one of the biggest reasons he signed here, instead of staying in the Bronx, so......
