I really don't see the point in moving Alvarez, especially since we don't really have anyone in the pipeline to replace him. Torrens is a great backup, but he's not a full-time player. The more he plays, the less value he produces.
Wouldn't it be just like the Mets to trade Robert Jr and he goes on a Cespedes-like tear for his new team, leading them to the World Series? Then, he'll sign a big free agent contract and play in less than 50% of the games for his new team, due to injuries.
Cespedes is a prime case of a player going on a run, being overpaid, and then coming back to earth. He wasn't even all that in the postseason (he might have had moments, but Murphy was more important). I agree with you on the catcher situation. Who are you going to replace him with? If there was someone out there, maybe.
Alvarez is approaching .800 ops and 270 average. I’d move him up in lineup. His fielding is still poor. He’s young but can he be a good defensive catcher. For a starting first baseman yes. Otherwise no.
Glad you changed your mind about Alvarez. But a big difference you didn't discuss is that Holmes will decline his option while Weaver is signed through next year. Since Holmes might walk after this year, it makes more sense to trade him to a contender and maybe even try to resign him when he becomes a FA. Even if you can get an impressive return for Weaver, you can't deny it will weaken the bullpen next year, especially since Minter and Raley probably won't be back.

Yeah, probably not your intention, and I'm mouthing off due to being disappointed - ok REALLY pissed off - with his job performance. But Presidents can be that way from time to time. Eventually they get tired of not having their genius recognized while being absurdly well rewarded. Then they find someplace else to go. After all, they have experience leading a big organization in a complex environment! Somebody else will surely pay to have that talent fix their club!
If the Mets aren’t willing to play Alvarez anywhere but catcher they should trade him. He gets hurt too frequently to keep catching. DH? First Base? Keep. Catcher? Best available offer

The big needs will be to add a first and second baseman. Bauers and Lowe as free agents? Roberts gets dealt now; Vientos in the offseason. Baty and Semien are kept as bench guys.
Loss of draft picks. Win now while Soto and Lindor still have some youth left.
The botched play on the sacrifice bunt (the DODGERS should have had the blame; the bunt went right back to the pitcher & a safety squeeze is about not being caught in that situation) could have been the play of the game if the Dodgers didn't tack on runs.
And, of course, Ohtani got the sacrifice fly. Todd Zeile said he didn't mind not walking him since the guy coming up is good at bringing in runs. But, come on, it's Ohtani.
