WOW with that crazy Witt contract the price for the Alonso and Alvarez extensions just went way up !!

Fwiw: Bobby Witt is 23 years old. (He turns 24 in June.) He's also athletic, powerful and exceptionally speedy. In other words, best I can tell, he's precisely the type of player who excels in today's game. (Can we say the same about Alonzo and Alvarez?) Royals were wise to ink an 11-year deal with Witt now. Does the money make sense? Who the Hell knows.

All that said, I and (I suspect) most Mets fans will be beyond furious if the Mets fail to sign Pete Alonzo. And if Alvarez proves to be a star this season

I just checked Witt's stats. Per Wikipedia (citing Fan Graphs), he's tied for the fastest sprint speed in the majors - which, in 2023, translated into a league-leading 49 stolen bases. He also batted .276/.319/.495 with 30 home runs and 96 RBIs. Further, he "led the major leagues with 11 triples, and became the first player in MLB history to record 30 home runs, 10 triples, and 45 stolen bases in one season. He also became the first Kansas City Royals player to reach the 30–30 club."

Oops. I accidentally deleted part of a sentence. Re: Alvarez - If he proves to be a star this season (as some project) & the Mets fail to sign him to a long-term contract, Mets fans may be similarly pissed.
