Veteran starters, young starters.....there seems to be a pattern and a growing problem perhaps with the way Mets pitchers are being trained...Maybe as Darling said there is a wall impeded in pitchers that says 6/7innings and 90/100 pitches is all ypu cannot before flame out. When I grew up in the 60s it was a standard that a pitcher complete a game. Look at the statistics of Seaver, Gibson, Carlton, et al. I know baseball teaches the 120 max effort on every pitch.....which I think is freekin stupid. The concept of wiley deception and off speed is gone. It's a topic for an 8 hour seminar.
Yup. How was it possible that you had guys who threw far more innings than they do now, pitch complete games in abundance, and yet not blow out their elbows?
The old time coaches probably know...the use of releivers started with Sparky Anderson no?. Oddly I'd protect arms of pitchers too as it's not a natural position for arms and elbows in absorbing strain of the whip motion. There must be many research papers on it.
Carson Benge reminds me of David Wright. I hope he stays healthy and is with us for many years. And AJ Ewing hustles too. Love to see it. Hate when I see the veterans lolligag.
Right you are, he plays the right way. Besides running out ground balls, he doesn't stand at the plate and watch his long flies either go out or hit the wall (Soto). And he doesn't, ahem, do things to show up the other team like a left-handed circus performer I know. In addition to Soto, Robert also doesn't run hard to first. Two questions: Isn't it time to bring Mauricio up and give him a solid run? Is it time to maybe give Ewing a day off?

Reminds me of a player the Mets had, Nimmo. Hustled on every to first on every walk and hit. Loved that about him and Benge.
Someone taught him well when he was a kid, I'm sure. Too bad his arm turned into a noodle as he got older.
well stated on Benge and Alonso
Last night, I was dreaming of Benge shining in the playoffs. I can see it.
(Not this year.)
Scott ran into a wall last night with three walks. But the offense had a chance in a low-scoring game. The team teased us a little, huh?

Carson by far has been the brightest part of this Mets season. A pleasure to watch his development
