Chalk up another win. There must be some concern about the unusual number of errors and misplays by Lindor. Does he occasionally need a blow from Acuna, is his vision or reaction time slowing? Don't think they can afford to rationalize whatever it is as he is an essential player to reaching the World Series
No one is going to hang these first two games in the Met. But, I always find it encouraging when the team isn’t firing and yet beats the team it needs to. Uncharacteristically sloppy game last night. Lindor made a rare bad throw, Vientos tried the novel approach of playing the hot corner without a proper webbing in his glove, and Baty even had butterfingers on the transfer after corralling a pop-up. Also, conditions weren’t ideal as Taylor wiping out on the wet grass going after a double ended up costing the Mets an extra base on the play. But, they did what they needed to do when they needed it.
Diaz hit 99 again as well. From my seats Saturday, that game against the Cubs was the best he had looked to date. Following that up with another good outing is really encouraging. He looks closer to 22 Diaz than he did at nearly every point last year. Nondescript series wins are some important pieces. Definitely be nice to close a 5-1 home stand tonight if they play!
Keller looks like a very good pitcher to me, hadn't heard much about him. It's a different ballclub when Nimmo is himself. Great to win when Lindor and Alonso go 0 for 8.
Baty only played 3 games and had 11 ABs at Syracuse. I've been saying all along, LEAVE HIM ALONE AND LET HIM PLAY! Ever since he first came up in 2022, the Mets have been yanking his chain, sitting him against left-handed pitchers, sitting him for the likes of Joey Wendle and Zack Short, trying to make him pull the ball, trying to make him hit it in the air, etc. This is a kid, a former first round draft pick, who has dominated at every level of the minor leagues and the Mets have done their damndest to screw him up, while they pretty much took the exact opposite approach with Mark Vientos. They told him to hit the ball where it's pitched. They told him not to be afraid to hit the ball to the opposite field. They plugged him in at 3B and left him alone to develop.
I agree that they should let him play for an extended period but even though I'm a fan we have to admit he has been given two stretches of time where he's been allowed to play and hasn't hit. They shouldn't give up on him, which a lot of commenters seem to favor. Good power and imo an above-average fielder at 3rd. I'd like to see Vientos at DH and Baty at 3rd some days. Or rest Vientos now and then with McNeil at DH and Baty at 3rd.

Hope it turns out to be nothing. But you're right, it wouldn't hurt for him to sit now and then for Acuna.

Spot on. Being able to find a way when you're not at your best is a key ingredient for a championship team. Let's keep it rolling.
