Tough to lose Senger, but we can't carry three catchers.
I'm sure McNeil will get the chance to do it, but I think he'll have a hard time displacing Acuna at second. The kid is really coming on.
As to Baty, even as his numbers improved, he wasn't really smoking the ball the way he did in Spring Training. If he's ever going to stick (I know, I'm starting to sound like a broken record) he's going to have to revamp his swing. He needs a trigger. He's TOO still in the box.
I'd love to see him get there. Good guy, carries himself like a pro, has talent. He just needs to find that one millisecond in the box and lash some line drives into the gaps.
Yes Kevin, his stance reminds me of Matt Olsen of Atlanta ...who has NO Xtra motion. He is the coolest cucumber I've ever seen. But Matt has a quick bat. Batys swing always seems a bit slow & can't catch a good fastball
That's exactly what I see. He's a millisecond behind and trying to make it up with his hands. Very, very common.
I've mentioned this before, but I would love to see him open his stance and give himself something to do in there. MLB Central had a great breakdown of Jung Hoo Lee this morning, and that's right where I'd love to see Brett: about 40 degrees open, and then close to a toe tap and whale.
And I hardly ever recommend funky stances like that. In fact, I was barking for Luisangel to bring his hands down a little and be set earlier. Which is working for him now that he's actually done it.
But horses for courses. Brett needs to go the other way. He needs to be moving around a little.
I was rooting for Baty but he’s just not it unfortunately. Hopefully McNeil hits like the 2nd half last year and can take some time from Nimmo until he remembers how to hit again.
How about McNeil in left and Acuna at second. Despite being a first round pick and carrying a $20 million price tag, Nimo has not hit for a year and his speed, arm and fielding is a liability. We need McNeil to hit for a .280 or better average.
Basically the Siri injury did not change what was a competition for the last roster spot. We all knew Acuna won that competition. Baty still needs to earn his way on the roster. This is the way.
Someone had to go. Acuna has many more facites to his game .Senger did a terrific job, and for now nice to have him in reserve.

Keep up the momentum in DC guys! I hope Baty rakes in AAA and rediscovers himself.
