Wild! He'll never see the playoffs. Not a good team. Just wild. We've got some serious signings or trades to do, that's for sure.

Yes; we need to hear the plan from Stearns now. The Mets lost 2 key players in 2 days.

The final question will be who will be left in the end. Surely some more familiar faces will leave.

Vientos with a glove on is not a good look at any position

If this had been before they moved left field back, I would have said this was a great signing for them. Now, not so sure. Although most of his home runs are blasts, the extra distance wont hurt.

I guess the Mets sign one of the Japanese sluggers to play first now? Team is looking very left-handed unless they come up with a righty bat. Vientos to platoon at first?

This is less shocking to me. It's a lot of money and a long contract. It isn't to the Dodgers or something. And I thought Alonso was more likely to go than Diaz.

I wish him well. I also hope the Orioles do some more so he has a credible team around him.

**A FAREWELL ODE TO THE POLAR BEAR

(OR: HOW THE METS FUMBLED THE BALL..AGAIN)**

Oh Pete, our mighty slugger, once the hero of Queens,

Crusher of baseballs, smasher of dreams.

But now you’ve departed—signed off to new shores,

And Mets fans cry out, “How could they… once more?”

Your bat was a lighthouse in Citi Field’s night,

A beacon of moonshots, a mighty orange and blue knight.

But the front-office sages, in infinite grace,

Let you wander away with a shrug on their face.

They spoke of “the future,” of “metrics” and “plans,”

Of prospects still growing in far-off farm lands.

Yet somehow the future just never arrives—

Unless Brooklyn Cyclones now lead our lives.

So onward you journey to someone who’ll care,

A franchise that treasures a Polar Bear.

May your homers erupt with your trademark roar—

(Just don’t drop fifty on us… maybe forty-four.)

A salute to the warrior they chose to ignore,

Whose heart beat true in orange and blue once more

A fallen knight honored, whose value was plain—

But the Mets saw “flexibility” and called it a gain.

And to Mets management—bravo! Take a bow!

Another franchise icon’s gone missing… somehow.

Your gift for catastrophe truly runs rich,

You’d hand the game away and swear the ump was the snitch

So raise up a glass to Alonso’s new dawn—

To the Mets, who keep losing before games are won.

For nothing’s as constant, as sure to repeat,

As the Mets chasing glory…

and tripping over their feet.

This has been brewing for over a year now so I can't say that I didn't see it coming. Still, it hurts to see Mr. Met move on, without even an offer from Stearns.

I don't see where the Mets go from here with plugging all of these holes. What concerns me the most is that they are going to turn to the trade market now and overpay for marginal players, raiding our farm system. Or they will instead play guys out of position, such as Vientos or McNeil at first.

Look, it's difficult to believe in this front office right now but I hope all of this is part of a larger plan that will surprise us in a good way.

And so it goes! There is over 2+ months before we have an idea of what will constitute the roster for 2026. Pete was a terrific power hitter, and a below average 1bman on defense. When all is said and done adding quality to the starting pitching and adding new bats to the order hopefully will make us a better team.

The fact we never made a formal offer tells me there's something brewing (har har). The plan can't be for Vientos to become the everyday first baseman.

Can it? CAN IT?

Sigh ...

Ugh. I do believe that Pete's contract will be pretty bad for the O's at the end. That fact makes it suck just a little less for me.
