Hate to see Nimmo go but it opened up that outfield blockade by him and if Tucker or Belli are headed to Queens now. Hold on! It also frees up the DH spot which keeps Pete in play.

The good part of this deal is that it strongly increases the likelihood that they go after either Bellinger or Tucker. And they get out of a big financial commitment. The bad part is a 35 year old who batted .230. If they didn't care about hitting couldn't they just run Acuna out there, who's a great fielder? My guess is that it's a prelude to going hard for Tucker. It's the only way I can explain it. I'll miss Nimmo, nice guy, but his days of obp .360-.400 are gone.

Hate this deal. Semien was an excellent player, but is several years older than Nimmo and is clearly on a steep downward trend. Nimmo, while perhaps passing his prime, is still a very productive player.

I thought second base was going to be manned by Jett Williams for the next decade. Young, fast, dynamic. Or perhaps we were getting a better third baseman and moving Baty to second. But now the young infielders are seemingly more blocked than before, while there is only one clear starter in the outfield. Obviously there will be more to come but I can’t see how Semien moves things in the right direction. I look forward to hearing Stearns’ thinking. He is no dope so he must see something I’m missing.

It's another trade for an excellent player (one of my favs) but is 34. I'll miss Nimmo badly has he was a consummate pro...and when some in the fan base criticized his play in June I knew he'd fix the ship and he did....this is another loss spiritually for the Mets. A homegrown. Hope he does well in Texas.

Nimmo had to go—but for this guy? Nimmo was frustrating for his lack of clutch hitting, sure, but now Stearns brings in another .230 hitter? Feels like déjà vu. Shades of Cedric Mullins all over again.

I'm not sure Semien is the opening day 2B. Taking on that salary for a 34 year old for his defense doesn't make sense to me. Putting Acuno out there for an even better defense and speed and seeing what he can hit ... for peanut$ ... would be more logical in prevent runs mode. No, going to be more moving parts. Don't buy your Met Semien jersey yet.

I'll never knock Nimmo. He gave it his all and played through injuries never complaining. Will miss him, but it does free up salary to sign another player. Semien is a terrific defender, and hopefully his bat will be adequate at the bottom of the lineup. As David Bowie said, Ch Ch Changes!

They're breaking up that old gang of ours.

Had to be done, but 1 for 1 Nimmo for Semien? Not sure about that. Maybe some Mets bias there on my part but I thought Nimmo might bring in more.

There were some significant doubts when there were rumors that Nimmo would be traded.

I think this is a message trade (granting it happened). This team will look different next season.

Love the trade. I am really glad to see the commitment in breaking up the core.

Hate to see Nimmo go as he was a homegrown Met who loved being here. I know there has been some talk of the Mets getting more for him, but that contract was prohibitive. At least they got back some infield defense while also opening up a bunch of possibilities in the outfield. Brandon's defense was already trending downward and there's no telling what would have happened with his bat over the life of his contract. This deal, while underwhelming in return, opens up a lot of flexibility for future moves. The Mets can also now use their infield surplus to help get things done.

We ALL wanted better defense. Semien won the GG at 2nd base this past year. Maybe Jett is now going to be PART of a trade to get and ace. Semien and Lindor (who'll have a bounce back year at short) will be GREAT up the middle.

Semien is a trap at 2b. Not much gets through. Bat him 5 or 6, he will move runners.

Let's hope that what the Mets acquire this winter assures that Semien will bat 8 or 9.
