Come on, let's tell it like it is: every single player on the roster has regressed this season. From established guys like Bichette and Peterson to younger guys like McLain and Baty. There is not one single player on the entire roster playing better than he did in prior years. It is impossible for that to be a coincidence. That's not "being handed a flawed roster". It is totally on the coaching staff.
I continue to think about that as well. No one is having a career year or even hitting to the back of the baseball card other than Soto. Even he still hasn’t had his Mets moment either. Seems even he struggles in the clutch. Just a poor job from top to bottom.
That's interesting. Trying to think of exceptions to your statement. Maybe Alvarez hasn't regressed? Minter? Raley? Maybe Brazoban is actually better than last year.
He had a bad hand, but I don't think he played it well enough. I think this basically had to be done though I don't expect any great magical results. Other stuff has to be done.
I noted, only partially in jest, that if the Cubs swept, he should be fired, Senga should be DFA-ed, and David Stearns put on an ice floe. 1/3, if not the one I wanted the most.
Stearns needs a 360 - where the people who work with and for him provide an evaluation of his management, decision making, and communication style. The problem can't be front office talent as no one thinks that it is lacking. The only thing left is culture and management style, and that falls on Stearns.
They fired the wrong guy.. He should’ve been gone a while ago, but the guy that really set up this whole mess is david Stearns.. he did a miserable job putting his roster together. Everything has got to start with pitching and the Mets have a good bullpen but no starting pitching. They should’ve never let Pete Alonso go then they wouldn’t have had to spend the money on Boba Fete… who has shown he can hit, but I’m not impressed with him.. letting Brandon Nemo go also was stupid. He had a vibe with the club and that counts as much as anything… Steve Cohen get your act together man you’re being outplayed everywhere
Make no mistake about it: no one is turning this roster into a winning one. But a more competitive loser might be possible. I predict they continue to lose more than they win. Hey Juan, is the money still worth it?
There has to be a sense of relief for him as well. He'll sleep this weekend better than he has in the past two years.
Now for my b'day on Sept. 6th, I want Stearns gone.
Early birthday present, please!
The one that needs to go is David Stearns for putting together a dysfunctional team in the first place.

I forgot Weaver, who is better than last year.
Weaver is the one exception. Alvarez has certainly regressed, mostly on the defensive end. I mean look at either WAR number.
I would have put Beltran in as Manager.
Me too. Maybe they will in 2027. He didn't kill anybody, forgiveness has a place in life, no?

Love that word, "lackadaisical" but prob not in the context of a game. 😉

If the Mets improve, we'll all say, "Should've been done in April, another bad decision by Stearns".
Stearns needs to fire himself
