I think the last sentence said it perfectly. What hurts the most at the end of the day is him not even wanting to say goodbye to a fan base that treated him like a king. This isn’t St. Louis, that respect doesn’t come naturally to us.

deGrom’s presser showed what he was: a phony.

I agree with everything you wrote and felt the exact type of hurt and disappointment in deGrom. I wish Jake well…he gave us great memories…just wish he had more class in showing his gratitude to the fan base who loved him so well. It will be interesting to hear what type of reaction he gets from the fans if he pitches at Citifield in August…if he’s not on the IL.

Loved watching deGrom pitch and will still watch him when I have the chance. The difference is I won’t be rooting for him. Grateful for the competitive spirit he brought and how he made teams, particularly NL East teams, look like little leaguers when he was on the hill, especially in the years we weren’t very competitive. But we’ve got plenty of great players to focus on and root for with this team, so no hard feelings here. Good luck Jake.

deGrom was never going to say “Sandy Alderson p****d me off, and while I gave it my all for the team and the fans, I was counting down the days until I could opt out, and leave. I was never going to resign, and my only regret is letting Mets fans down”.

I have the feeling that Nimmo came back to the Mets with the best offer he'd received (from Giants, maybe from the Yankees) and asked the team he wanted to remain at whether they'd match it and they did.

Pretty sure now that deGrom never liked it here for whatever reason. In which case, it's good he's gone. My feelings for him have taken a total u turn.
