Why is it this franchise does things that no other franchise ever does? Is there some sort of curse that was made that we don’t know about? The Mets have the richest owner in professional sports and since he purchased the team spent more money than anyone since and has nothing to show for it. Sure, they made a magical run last year but this franchise can never sustain greatness. It’s not even like the whole team fell to injuries which would be at least an excuse for what they are doing right now. The talent is here. This on paper is maybe one of the most talented teams the Mets have had EVER! To be playing like this is just egregious but really is and it’s a huge slap in the face to us fans. We were treated to best start since the ‘86 team and have been gaslighted since. The daily mantra from them is we are too good and will turn this thing around. I started to become worried with the sweep in Pittsburgh. I saw lack of focus and no heart on that trip and it has permeated through the clubhouse and has taken hold. This hope we are supposed to have is fruitless. This team is cooked and us fans have witnessed it. It’s a franchise wide collapse and we will be feeling this one forever. I personally cannot recall another franchise failing like this after the start this team had. I’m sure I’m wrong on that but this one has pissed me off especially when I see that smug face on Stearns who assembled this team and went cheap on the rotation. I’ll be damned if I forget this one for a while.
100%. I would love to have Stearns have to face the fans for questions after this season. But it does go to show you that $ is only one part of the equation. Clubhouse leadership seems to be sorely missing. I think that Medoza is liked, but he's just not the guy to lead a team with this many issues. There were a LOT of question marks with the starting pitching at the start of the season (could Montas be fixed, will Holmes be able to convert to SP, how many games will we get from Senga until the inevitable trip to the IL?). It didn't appear to me that they had even though about a Plan B. It was like they were throwing spaghetti against the wall to see what stuck.
He also thought because he had success with the rotation that he would just copy it every year. He forgot Sevy had the stuff to correct and Manaea needed a fresh start. The book is out on Manaea. Just don’t swing. Lol he will come back to the zone to not walk you and then you can clobber it. Quintana has been a good pitcher for years now. Holmes might become a starter but he had no plan B for him if he couldn’t pull it off. Canning? Idk what he was thinking there when he could’ve had Q for the same cost. Montas I screamed over as he hasn’t been good since ‘21. I want to see the kid today because they should’ve been brought up months ago
The Reds blew a big lead and stopped scoring, though it was against the Brewers juggernaut. The Reds were 5-5. They have a tough schedule. However, the Mets don't have an easy schedule. The Mets cannot keep on going 1-9. The first step is mediocre baseball!
The Blackburn move is not surprising since he just pitched and is a borderline player. Nonetheless, he showed an ability to give the team innings. Montas was adequate last night. But someone who can give length like Blackburn is something the Mets are going to need.
I think the plan is to gut through this without changing much. But at some point, is that a great idea? What is the plan? Eventually, Megill comes back to be your fifth or sixth starter? Fans who want to "see the kids" (or "young studs," to quote Gary Cohen) sound reasonable.
I think this team needs a shock to the system. Someone (or more than one) unexpected should be gone. And, yeah, it might turn out the Mets somehow manage to hang on to the third WC spot. It is not like their opposition is strong. They are really working at it and STILL have the spot.
Gary Cohen called the pitcher called up for today's game a "young stud." There are other pitchers in the pipeline that people are interested in pitching in the majors.
The Mets traded a leading OF prospect as part of a deal for a rental. Fans could see Drew Gilbert play in the majors. If they had access to the Giants game.
Yes, some of "the kids" are playing now, though at times with limited playing time (Acuna). The results have been mixed, of course.
You said terrible flaws could’ve in part been addressed last winter, I beg to differ. Just look at Nimmo and Vientos. They had to play and look what they've done. Not to mention sub-.250 hitters like Baty, Taylor and Mauricio. Can I also throw Mullens in?
I mean this is an ugly situation right now. Helsley has been brutal this week. Raley looked like something was wrong last night, on and on. Two questions: Down 10-6, Mendoza decideds this is the time I give up an have Montas pitch? Give up a run, to make 11-6, and the Alvarez cuts it to 11-9. And Montas goes back out there, again? Thankfully he did not give up another run, but a one-run game in the 9th is different than a 2-run game, no? I mean more pressure, less feel we need to string a big inning together, more let me get on and maybe I can tie up the game playig small ball. Also what is Hefner doing in the midst of this meltdown. Mendoza looks like he has PTSD just staring blankly at the field. Make Gibbons the manager, and make some changes in the staff. Some guys who were leaders when they played. And actually knew how to play. And can someone help Soto play right field. He looked lost out there last night, taking bad routes to a couple of balls. Not sure he would caught them with a good route, but...definitely not with the ones he took
You can't teach a player to take good routes any more than you can teach them to take the correct immediate first step. Either they can do it or they can't.
Well, I would disagree, but it is not the point. Soto's defense is lacking in right field, yet everyone acts like they cant say a word. Last year, when he was going into free agency, is when you kiss his ass. After the contract is signed, for the amount he makes, you can call him out for his lack of effort running out balls, his bad routes and constantly overthrowig cutoff men. For the amount he is getting paid, he needs to take get that extra work done. Peace
Last night was the second time in two weeks that I have been to Citifield. Both days were about 40,000 fans. Great crowds. Yet both games, the pitchers can't get past 5 innings, the bullpen, which was supposed to be the team strength, isn't, and can't hold a multiple run lead. Something is missing. This team has no chemistry.

This is spot on- I could not have said it better. I’m way too old for this.

Who are the kids nowadays ... Baty? ... Vientos? ... Mauricio? ... Acuna? ... Alvarez? Or are we readying for the next wave of "young studs" from AAA?

They're cooked.
"CLEAR!" AED device being used. "CLEAR!" .... too late.
A couple of random thoughts about the Mets, not necessarily related to last night’s deBacle in deCiti:
I’thinking that they’re thinking that they are going to leave Frankie off their postseason roster
If I had bought Juan Soto on Amazon, I would be returning him because he’s not as advertised. But, if moved to the leadoff spot …
