With the Super Bowl in the rearview mirror (or whatever that was for the Chiefs last night), it is officially baseball season.
There’s snow on the ground and more is coming for the New York area, but we made it, even if it doesn’t seem that way outside. The Mets will open spring training this week in what has shaped up to be one of the most anticipated seasons in the club’s 63-year history.

New York enters camp coming off a magical October run that finished just two wins short of a World Series berth, and a winter that was arguably just as much fun.
Generational superstar Juan Soto agreed to join to take his talents to Queens in early December. Nearly all of the team’s key contributors from a year ago returned, and after finally re-signing with the team last week, Pete Alonso is primed to set the franchise’s all-time home run record this summer in what he hopes is a big year hitting with Soto.
On paper, the Mets could almost certainly stand to add one more legitimate starting pitcher, but the same could’ve been said a year ago, and the rotation dramatically outperformed expectations.
The Mets have assembled an offense that should get on-base and score—and score a lot. That alone should be able to mask some of the potential inconsistencies, but they also have an exciting crop of top minor league talent that, if David Stearns and company become inclined to do so, could be traded for starting pitching help later.
While the Mets may not necessarily be a perfect team on paper, who is? And at the end of the day, this is a group that should be one of the most talented and dynamic clubs in the team’s history.
There are very few days on the calendar that make you feel giddy as an adult, but the start of spring training is always one of them.
Buckle up, the 2025 season is here. And it should be one hell of a ride.
