Dangers of writing of deadline: that pesky ninth inning run that doesn’t impact the result but changes the narrative a tiny bit.

How do we discuss this game and not mention more Mendoza blunders? Pitching to Chisholm with the dreadful Ryan McMahon on deck? On a team that painfully refuses to use any reliever on back-to-back days, bringing in Kimbrel in a three-run game when he pitched the day before?

To do list for remainder of season: 1) Celebrate ‘86 and 2) 86 Stearns.

This is so devastating. I know, realistically speaking, there isn't a thing called "snake-bit" for situations like this. Saying that, this franchise IS snake-bit.

No one is to blame, except sheer bad luck.

It's nice to try to look for a bright side. But, net, how much more of Holmes are you getting even by that logic? Sigh. Not that I have high hopes, but what is the status of Senga?

The loss other than Holmes (how about that play, Lincoln?) was acceptable. They were facing an ace. They can shut you down. They did manage a couple of runs. The pen was good.

Realistically, though, you want more, a win vs the Yankees is acceptable. Don't be swept. Stay competitive. Loss of an ace, of course, puts a pall over the whole thing.

It was 5-2. The post says 5-1.

Unfortunately I don’t think this means Holmes opts into his contract. Maybe it gives us a better opportunity to negotiate a new one with him though? Based on results, Wenninger should be the call up but I agree it’s probably Tong or maybe put Myers or Manaea in the rotation
