I thought head-first into first base was pretty much forbidden because a., it often leads to injury and b. it doesn't get you to first any faster than running. On a personal level, Mauricio will never have as good an opportunity for playing time and he blew it.
Well, the Mets manager and coaches could order players not to slide hands first into bases (remember Alvarez's injury last year?). I don't recall Jackie Robinson ever doing this.
Oh wait, that won't happen. No benching. No fines. Nothing.
Also....who the hell slides into first base head first?? This is what I'm talkin' about.....no discipline & propensity for stupid plays. You'd never see a Dodger or Brave pull that stunt.

Dumb stuff, followed by more dumb stuff. It’s hard to watch these days.
It is unforgivable to NOT challenge the first inning base runner crossing plate whilst runner tagged out at 3rd.
And Never head first unless you want a spinal injury, broken hand, et.
Baseball 101: you never slide into 1st base unless it is to avoid a tag or collision. Doing otherwise is little league.

Wait 'til next year! Or something...
