A split in LA could mean the world for the Mets
Plus, the Mets swept the Rockies out of town with more power
What’s up with the Mets? ⚾
The Mets completed a sweep of the Rockies on Sunday, beating Colorado by the score of 5-3 (Box)
Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor, and Juan Soto all homered in the win
Clay Holmes started for the Mets and was fantastic again, going seven strong innings while allowing only three runs on three hits with no walks and three punchouts.

Injury Updates 🏥
Sean Manaea (strained oblique) will throw another live BP session today before the Mets send him on a rehab assignment
Play of the Game ⭐️
The most impactful play of this game came in the 4th inning. With the Mets trailing by a narrow 1-0 margin, Pete Alonso connected on a three-run blast that flipped the game, gave the Mets to lead, and set the tone for the rest of the afternoon.
Stats of the day 📊
Sunday marked the first time Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso all homered in the same game this season
Their 24-7 record at home this season is the best through 31 games in franchise history. The last team in the majors to record as many wins through their first 31 home games of a season was the 2023 Tampa Bay Rays (25-6)
The Mets have won the last 26 games in which Lindor has homered (dating back to 7/9/24), the longest such streak in franchise history. It is the second-longest such streak in Major League history, trailing only Carl Furillo’s 29 games from 1951-53
Edwin Diaz's streak of 30 consecutive at-bats without allowing a hit ended on Sunday, which was tied for the 10th-longest such streak in Mets history (Elias). However, he struck out three more batters on Sunday and over his last four games (4.1 IP), has struck out 10 of the 15 batters he's faced and has a scoreless streak running at 13.1 IP
Checking in with Pete Alonso… 🐻❄️
With his three-run home run on Sunday, Pete Alonso now has 238 career home runs, four behind David Wright for second place in franchise history and 14 behind Darryl Strawberry for the all-time franchise mark.
He is 23 RBI behind Mike Piazza for third all-time in franchise history - he moved into fourth place in Mets history on Sunday.
Alonso has three home runs and eight RBI in his last seven games.

Even a split in LA would be a meaningful accomplishment for the Mets… ✍️
The Mets took care of business over the last week with a 5-1 run over the White Sox and Rockies, and had a successful 7-2 homestand which began with a meeting with the Dodgers last weekend.
And now they’re set to meet again.
They got their first look at each other this season a week and a half ago when the Mets took two of three from LA in Queens—and very easily could have swept them had a wild Friday night extra innings game gone the other way.
The two powerhouses will renew acquaintances in SoCal for the next four days, in a series that could have larger implications than your typical one in early June.
Before the 2025 season even began—check that—before the offseason even began last winter, the Mets knew that in order to get where they wanted to go, they would have to first get past a behemoth-sized obstacle from southern California.
The Dodgers were the ones to end the Mets’ magical run in the NLCS last fall, and ultimately, they cruised right through the Yankees as well en route to a World Series championship.
The Mets would’ve been heavily involved in the Juan Soto sweepstakes even if they’d won the World Series last fall, but aggressively pursuing the best free agent available was certainly done with an eye towards assembling a team capable of beating the defending champions.
And Soto appears to be breaking out at the perfect time.
We knew from before the first day of spring training this past February that the Mets and Dodgers were again going to be two of—if not the best two—teams on the senior circuit in 2025.
With a split in the upcoming four games, the Mets would clinch the season series with LA, which could be enormous a few months from now should the two teams—who at the time I’m writing this are separated by just a half game for the best record in the NL—finish in a tie.
Playing at Citi Field has proven to be a major home-field advantage for the Mets this season, and as the summer wages on, I think the team will be prioritizing finishing with the National League’s best record as much as just winning the division.
We have a long way to go, with over 100 regular season games remaining, but anytime the Mets and Dodgers get together, it is going to be must-see TV. The Mets got the best of them in round one in New York. Simply splitting would be great for tiebreaker purposes, but winning a series from them in their own backyard would be even more meaningful.

Around the League 🚩
Josh Smith homered twice and drove in four runs in the Rangers 8-1 home win over St. Louis
Trevor Story delivered a bases clearing double in the first inning that provided the only three runs the Red Sox needed in a 3-1 win over Atlanta
Milwaukee rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to come back and beat the Phillies 5-2—completing a weekend sweep in Philly
Toronto scored six times in the 8th inning—highlighted by a three run Addison Barger home run—to rally to beat the A’s 8-4
I must admit that I'm almost as happy that the Phils were swept at home as I am about what the Mets did.
A split in LA is OK but why not look for a 🧹!
