Good morning everyone,
The sun has finally set on the 2023 Mets, and the first piece towards the club’s restoration is in place with David Stearns joining the organization as the club’s first ever President of Baseball Operations.
From there, we shall see how it all unfolds. There’s uncertainty ahead with this franchise, there’s no real timetable for this club to become a championship contender, either. There will be some great decisions, some bad decisions, and some unpopular decisions sandwiched in between but we have to believe that it will all be served in the best interest of the franchise.
I know, that’s lip service. And as I wrote on Monday, talk is cheap. They always say the right things in public, and it hardly ever works out for the Mets. They’re back at square one with their organization building, something it seems they seem to go through every 2-3 years from the front office down to the field staff.
But while Steve Cohen will be the the first one to tell everyone that hope isn’t a strategy, hope is all we have as fans and hope is all that keeps us believing, keeps us watching, and keeps us dreaming that one day very soon, the New York Mets will be crowned World Champions for the third time in their history and for the first time in many of the fan base’s lives.
And I promise you this — when that happens, it will be truly glorious and a memory that lasts a lifetime.
Just talk to someone who experienced 1969 and/or 1986.
So while they work and strategize and try and fix this, lets us all keep the faith and continue to hope and believe.
In the interim, on behalf of the entire Just Mets staff, I wanted to thank you for following, thank you for subscribing, and thank you for reading our work on a daily basis. We have experienced such unexpected growth in this newsletter over the last year. I never expected this to become so successful but that’s a testament to the work, dedication and creativity the team has and does, and it is your support which enables and motivates us to dedicate 180 days of the regular season to you.
Despite the poor season from the Mets, I genuinely enjoyed writing this newsletter for you when it was my turn. Often times, I would wake up and not even know what to say, especially after their worst days. Sometimes, I just start writing and I see where it ends up. Usually it works out but that’s largely due to the fact the Mets are never not interesting, even when they’re a flop.
Anyway, this note marks the official end of the 2023 season for Just Mets. We will be taking a break with the daily grind, but expect to see some posts here and there as news pops up or ideas run through our brains during the playoffs.
We will be back five days a week with a regular newsletter after the World Series is over and the offseason officially begins.
That’s all for now. Once again, thank you all for your support. We will talk soon…
~ Mike B, Rich, Linda and Justin
Great job to the entire staff. I really enjoyed reading the newsletter with my breakfast every morning. You did an excellent job recapping the highs and lows of each nights game. It was a disappointing season for the NYM, but as you said, interesting in many ways. Enjoy the time off and thanks again!
I also wanted to thank all of you. I've been with the Mets from the beginning and know what you're referring to about 69 and 86. I read your posts every day and look forward to your thoughts and perspectives on the changes that are sure to come. The current situation with Steve Cohen and David Stern give me more optimism then I've had a longer then I can remember. It reminds me of the 80's when Frank Cashen came on. We knew that we had truly competent and successful management. Let's Go Mets
