Mr. Baron:

Thanks for the recap. I do hope team leadership sees the stretch "trot" (it ceased being a "run" about the ASG) as you do. Begs the question regarding Tong to be 'why not?'

Considering his effort this weekend, the amount he has pitched this Summer, and the remaining MLB schedule, he has about 4 managed Starts of useful productivity left without risking his arm in any was considered at all chancy. No point in that.

Mets have a nice schedule left. Mostly teams needing wins. Let the kid see that part of the season. Feel the press every pitch. Then work on what he needs to be better over the Winter. Same with the other kids likely to be rostered next year.

There is an old chess expression that I think applies nicely. Has to do with chess clocks and time management. As you may know, chess games are timed - X moves in Y time - the clock stops one players side and runs the other depending on whose move it is. The expression is "your Opponent's time is free. Don't waste it." The end of this sorry year is the opponent's time. They have to win. Mets get it for free and need to use it wisely. Why not Tong?

Likewise, why are some of the vets playing so many innings? Let them heal well. Even Alverez does not seem right. Lindor is heathy, but I doubt 100%. Seeing Soto yesterday was fun, but he is not right either. Sure, give them innings, but 9? Why?

My 2 cents.

I definitely want to see Tong and I think we will. Even if he turns out to be a high leverage reliever or even closer that would be awesome and prevent us from having to go to free agency to sign pitchers like Williams or offering Diaz a ridiculous amount of money

Yan was solely responsible for the loss. Why is the instinct to grab a batted ball that's behind you so strong when there are fielders behind you?? Because of that nonsense the Astros scored 3 runs. Pintaro isn't a major league pitcher either....its like I'm watching the 1963 Mets all over again

Ok, but that really doesn't matter anymore. We know what Yan is right now, we know they don't have a first baseman, their season has been over for 3 months. They're only evaluating pieces at this point, not hopelessly trying to get back into a pennant race.
