There was a reference around a week ago by at least one Mets reporter, after a Mets loss, that the Giants had the third wild card because of a tiebreaker. The Giants lost (and kept on losing) later in the day & Mets went back to having a third playoff spot.

"The Mets finished their home schedule with a 49-32 record despite a 4-5 final homestand, and drew 3,182,057 fans, the most since the ballpark opened in 2009."

That's a bit amazing given how bad they have been the last few months.

The Diamondbacks have a hard schedule, but it would be a bit amusing if somehow they manage to get a playoff spot.

More amusing is that the Mets STILL are supposedly favored (if only by a hair) for the playoffs over the Reds. The Cubs were just swept. I'm thinking they want to show a pulse vs the Mets. Plus, the Marlins just love beating the Mets. The Reds have the Pirates and Brewers.

FIRST, YES THE PITCHING WAS A PROBLEM

BUT THE HORRIBLE SEPTEMBERS BY AND THE LACK OF RBIs BY THE FOLLOWING

ALONSO, NOT ICE COLD BUT FROZEN

ALVEREZ, SHOULD HAVE STAYED ON THE DL WITH TORRENS STARTING

VIENTOS, ABOUT 1 MONTH OF GOOD HITS AND 5 MONTHS OF HORRIBLE SWING AND MISSED STRIKEOUTS

REMEMBER BARON IN LATE APRIL, I TOLD YOU VIENTOS WASN'T THAT GOOD. YOU SAID GIVE HIM TIME AS HE'S A GOOD HITTER

AND WHAT A JOKE,

AS YES BARON, LINEUPS MATTER

BATTING VIENTOS 4 5 6

BATTING A COOLED DOWN MARTE 5 6

AND BATTING A RED HOT BATY 7 8

*

ALONSO WAS RED HOT IN APRIL MAY AND THEN IT WAS ALL DOWNHILL. ESPECIALLY SUKING IN SEPTEMBER

AND SENDING THE BEST PITCHER SENGA TO THE DL WITH A HORRIBLE THROW. ONE OF MANY I MIGHT ADD

SOTO WAS RED HOT IN SEPTEMBER WHEN IT MATTERED AND WAS NEEDED

SOTO COULD HAVE BEEN PAID $100 MILLION THIS YEAR AND WOULD HAVE BEEN WORTH IT

Since August 29, SOTO HAD A .333/.410/.801 (31-for-83) slashline with 15 extra-base hits (10 HR, 4 2B, 3B), 25 RBI, 20 runs, 12 stolen bases, 15 walks and a 1.277 OPS

PS. HOW MANY TIMES DID ALONSO COME UP IN 7 8 9 INNINGS AS THE GAME TYING OR WINNING RUN AS NOT HOMER BUT STRUCK OUT

Of all the players who’ve let us down, McNeil has (surprisingly) been the worst. He looks completely lost at the plate—what is he now, 2-for-29? Every at-bat feels weak, with none of the confidence or sharp contact he used to bring.

For a guy who once set the tone with tough outs and smart hitting, watching him flail like this has been one of the biggest disappointments of the season.

This is exactly what I feared about two or three weeks ago and now that this team is on the outside looking in you would expect them to put up a valiant fight in the remaining games. It would be great to see but I expect more of what this team really is and that’s one just ahead of the Rockies and White Sox. I hate to say it but this team goes out on a whimper as they will most likely have to win at least 2 against the Marlins to get in and they will split the first 2 and lose the last game putting us out of our misery finally. The attendance numbers were fantastic and wasted. The fans listened to Uncle Steve when he called the fans out over attendance last year. So, we listened to him and paid out hard earned money for this??? This team has been our reward because the owner cried about losing money at the gates? Should this team fail to get in I hope many Mets fans hit him up on twitter over it.

I WONDER IF THE METS MANAGER WILL SHOW UP AS THE METS WOULD BE BETTER WITHOUT A MANAGER

OR WILL THE METS OWNER FIRE, BOTH THE UNDESERVING METS GM AND METS MANAGER OF THEIR JOBS THIS WEEK

Sterns will not be fired. Cohen waited and worked too hard to have him as GM.

Mendoza is 50/50. He has one left on his three year contract. Who knows.

Stearns is going nowhere, but skipper is definitely a big question. I like Mendy, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to conclude he made too many gameday mistakes this season, and that usually means doom for the manager of an underperforming team.

It could mean trouble for the coaches, too. Injuries wracked the pitching staff, so Hef is likely safe. Richardson is safe. Racy is safe out in the bullpen and so is Raffy Fernandez. Sarbaugh is probably safe, although he did blow one key send, so his neck could be on the block if the brass is feeling especially testy.

Everyone else, especially Chavez and Barnes, is on the same thin ice as Mendoza.

If there is a change, who comes next? I have a dark horse candidate in mind, although (as with all young managers) he'd need a veteran bench coach. But to my mind, he checks all the boxes: intelligence, knowledge, experience, and maybe most of all, presence — the kind of guy who, when he walks into the locker room, makes everyone sit up straight.

That guy?

Albert Pujols.

I think you're spot on. At the very least there will be changes with some portion the coaching staff. Albert Pujols would be an exceptional hitting coach. Can you imagine the hoopla if Chipper Jones became a Mets coach!!!! 😆 🤣

😆 I think it's safe to say THAT one will never happen.

But I was talking Pujols as manager should Mendy lose his job at the end of the year, not as a hitting coach. I saw all I needed to see in LIDOM over the winter. Not only did he steer Escogido to the championship, but he turned Junior Caminero into a legit beast in the process.

I've been super impressed by his appearances on MLB Central, too. He does breakdowns not just on hitters, but on all aspects of the game. The Machine knows his business.

I wasn't aware he had a managerial jig going. By all means sign him on as manager and/or coach. Shoot, the way this season has played out sign him as our DH, 😆

Manager not strong enough he makes dumb ass moves and his line ups are stupid

Fire him and if possible get a veteran manager. This one put hot hitters (Baty) batting 7/8th spot and put frozen hitters up earlier.

They don’t have a strong leadership player on the team. - I think it will be best if they totally lose and Cohen FEELS HE HAS to make changes.

GO MARLINS

GO REDS

GO CHICAGO

BURY THIS CRAP - the smell is horrible
