At the time the consensus was that the Soto signing was Cohen and not Stearns. If this is true, is it not possible that some of the other awful moves were suggestions- requests-demands by Cohen to Stearns? And that’s why Stearns still is employed? I never understood why a brilliant guy like Cohen wouldn’t hire the absolutely best the moment he took control of the team - instead of Sandy Alderson and then Billy Eppler cause he had to wait for Stearns…….who’s teams never won anything after September.
We had 2024, which was a nice surprise, but it would not have happened (or been noticably less exciting -- we missed the third wild card by a game! yay!) with one less win. Plus, the mix of newbies and vets was different from what we have now.
What else was Stearns (partially) involved in that worked out? This is not a quick hook being asked for. This is not his first or second year. Why would talent come to this team now with all the screw-ups? It's the Mets. If a better baseball person can be found, there would still be a variety of reasons why they would consider coming if Stearns were fired.
"Stability" means keeping a guy who didn't do the job. There is a reason the typical fan, looking at how things work in their own lives, finds this bothersome.
